Went to Costco to do a little shopping and of course a trip through the meat dept. was called for.
Needed to pick up another pork belly or two. Well they only had one out in the cooler case so I asked one of the meat guys if they had more in the back. He smiled and said nope that's the last one and we won't be getting any for a long time we were told.
Kind of odd as they had all kinds of other pork, pricy but lots of butts to tenderloin, tons of ribs. The pork belly was $4.79 lb. butts $4.39 lb. Baby backs $5.97 lb.
First time I've spent $40+ for a pork belly.

$4.39/lb for butts!!?? Holy moly, I guess I should grab a few of the $2.49 ones from Wegman's then. Even still, that's nearly double their normal price - at least until a few months ago.

Actually at our Costco recently and noticed things are settling down. I.E. Prime Grade whole NY Strip loins were down nearly $2.00lb over a couple months ago. Which means I will be going and getting another soon as freezer is running a little low on NY Strips. When I get my next one I will report back on status of protein supplies there

Wow, Rich, rough days! I was in CostCo today, and took a quick pass by the meat bins. Pretty full, I saw four full bellies and plenty in the sliced configuration.....didn't take note of the price. Plenty of ribs, only one 2-pack of butts, but a pile of prime briskets (rare at my CostCo lately.) Still loaded with beef back ribs, too, but no shorties.

My g/f & I used to be whole beef loins from Costco, and I'd trim them up and carve it down to filets, to be frozen. For a little labor and a few plastic vacuum bags, we'd get the better part of a dozen meals, and really not all that expensive. I just have not been able to find the cryovaced whole beef loins for over a year.

I went in to get a new iPad yesterday and they were out of stock on them, I was so disappointed I didn’t even go over to the meat counter. OR the vodka! Just went home, had to spend twenty minutes getting the power cord to properly engage in the port!
It’s old and it’s time for a replacement.
