Weber's Texas Burgers with Barbecue Sauce

Got an email last week with this recipe. My son had a Cub Scout requirement where he had to plan a meal and cook over fire. He wanted to do burgers and looked through a few of my cookbooks, but didn't see anything that jumped out at him. He also mentioned ribs, but when I informed him of the 3+ hour cook time, he changed his mind. Then he said, 'What about burgers with some rib sauce on them?'. I remembered the email and showed him - his face lit up. No action shots taken during the cook, but he did great. Mixed and formed the patties, lit the grill (with some help/oversight) and made the sauce. Also did some asparagus, marinated in EVOO, S&P and lemon juice. After grilling, we dressed it with some lemon zest, more olive oil and grated parmesan. I'm almost ashamed to say this, but both kids (and I have to agree) said this was the best burger they've ever had. I can't recall one this good either. My wife was fairly silent - I think she was trying to be nice. :p Anyway, recipe is below. Try it out. Oh, we cooked these on the Performer with KBB and some spent oak from my winemaking.

Yeowzer!! Great looking burgers! you're a good Dad Jim. How'd the kids like the asparagus? I love it now but hated it with a passion when I was a kid.

That looks awesome! That cubby did good. It's funny Barb and I were going to do burgers next weeek and we were thinking of doing that same one.
