Weber Motherload!

Sadly my wife's Grandfather passed away recently, and we were tasked to help my mother-in-law go through his possesions. I have known for a long time that he had some sort of Weber grill in a storage box on his deck. Over the past few years we would visit them, and I would always volunteer to "cook some steaks", but he could never find the key to the box. He was quite stubborn about not cutting the lock, so I always wondered what was in there. Well, today we cut the lock, and boy was I surprised.

He had an old redhead kettle and boxes of brand new accessories. My mother-in-law told me that they had probably been in that box since the early 80's at least. Every thing was covered with a thick layer of dust, but the boxes were all dry and in good condition.

Besides the grill there was a RA-22 rotisserie:

An S-26 Shish Ka Bob set:

And a W-18 work table:

All of the accessories are new in the boxes, never used and the grill looks like it was only used a few times:

Sorry for going on so long, but I am quite excited about acquiring these things. Now I just have to convince the SWMBO that it is worth the cost to ship them all back home to California from here in Illinois!

Wow. Can't believe he wouldn't cut the lock on that. I'd have torn the thing apart with a chainsaw to get to that stuff. Sad he never got to use it.

Some things are meant to be.
Just give the items the respect they deserve, and think of your Gf in-law when you use them.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your grandfather in law. He had some killer weber parts!

I'm quite sure the SWMBO won't have any objections to my getting the stuff home to California. We are probably going to rent a truck to move some of the furniture and things that she would like to keep, and I'll squeeze it in there somewhere. I looked for a manufacturing date mark on the grill and could find no letter code on any of the vents. Anyone have any idea how old this Kettle is?

The vent on the bottom is off to the side not centered, it has two welded handles on the bottom tub, and a riveted wooden handle. There are a couple of dings along the edge of the lid, but other than that it is in great shape.

I also forgot to mention, there was also a Genesis 1000LX sitting next to the storage locker on their deck that hadn't been used in a decade. It had the heavy duty Weber cover on it, and over the many winters and summers it had shrunk down over the grill so tight that I had to cut it off with a knife. But it had no holes in it and protected the grill perfectly. You can see it in the background of this picture. I'll post some pics of it later.

Wow, that is awesome! A couple of quick clean-ups and you can treasure his memory every night as you're turning out delicious food. That is AWESOME!

Thank you for all of the condolences. Grandpa was 90 and had a good life. My mother-in-law says that he never really was much of a BBQ enthusiast, he just always bought the best that was available whenever he wanted to try something new. The redhead was probably last used in 1995 in her estimation.

I'm going to change that tonight. I used the bottle of grill cleaner I found in the stash to wipe it down this afternoon, and we be grilling steaks and corn on the cob tonight. She has been in that dark storage box too long, time to breath a little fire back into her!

Love the accessory table, I can't wait to get it back to California!

Will the Genesis be coming back to Calif. also. A little bit of love and it will be like new. I will take a 1000 over almost anything on the market today. We love our Genesis Redhead 1000. Your redhead kettle is already looking great.

Condolences for your loss and congrats on the sweet collection. Looks like Gramps got just about every accessory that was available at the time.

If you could post a pic of the top vent, it would help pin down the age of the grill. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking mid to late 60s patent pending

I think Dave is pretty close, that looks like my dads from about '67 that was the first one I ever used! I knew right then, I was hooked! The handles finally rusted off, and the legs broke but,it lived its entire life in the elements. I think I used it until about '90's, maybe not quite that long. But, I gave it to a friend who used it until he bought a performer!
