Rich, for a personal grill, I would opt for the $75 bars. But I have not actually had a set of those....the specs just look really good for the price. Reviews are good too.
I am not sure how to tell if they are OEM CI grates. I would look on the bottom side for markings.

Thanks all for the feedback. Yes having both SS and CI. Main goal is to get the grill up and running. I can worry about upgrades later.

In other news, my new warmer rack came in damaged. Sending it back tomorrow for a refund. Its an aftermarket, and turns out wasn't the right size anyway. It was for the Silver B and C grills, slightly wider than the Genesis one. OEM 80641. What i really need is an 80632, which superseded the 7514 part#.

Is going to be raining like crazy and snowing some places in CT next few days. May need to crank the propane heater when I'm painting.

Save the $$$ on warming racks and such. Splurge on really good grates. Grates are truly what you interact with on your grill. Your experience with your grill is related strongly to how well the grates work. Nearly more than every other part. Short answer for RCPlanebuyer stuff is YES! Worth every penny

Agreed on that. I have him saved on my ebay profile for future purchases. The $30 dollar ones I got are 7mm thick rods, and RCplanebuyer is about 9.5mm thick. That's quiet a bit more material and the price is certainly justified.

For now the goal is to get the grill up and running, then I'll worry about upgrading. I just found that the slide trays below the cookbox are completely rotted away, so thats another $15 bucks to replace those.

I'm getting a full refund on the warmer rack, which I use pretty often along with the flat one to toast the burger/dog buns with some butter. Ordered the correct one from amazon (same price) hopefully it does not come in damaged.

Gary: I agree with Larry as well. Most of the grills I pick up for rehabbing don't have warming racks. If they do, they are all rusted to snot. Most people never replace them when they rust out which is quite quickly since they are not Stainless. And the other people just take them out because they get in the way more than they are worth. But, if you really feel like you want them, then thats cool too. Spend the extra $15 on a grate upgrade.

Honestly at that route you're going to be buying grates twice. Unless you're just not planning on keeping it that's another story. But IMO why pay $50 or so for a set that is only MAYBE half as good. And BTW save about 10% from the EBay prices and buy direct from him. He does what I do. You can buy a mixer from me over EBay and pay the commission for me (10%) or buy through me privately and save that $$$. As a side benefit I even offer a linger warranty for non-Ebay sales.

Very solid advice on the grates guys. Honestly I do use the warming racks. My red top CI grates are original from 1990, and no thinning like the other ones I posted earlier. Thats with proper care.

I should be okay with the cheaper stainless grates for now. Worse case scenario is I can undertake the Weber 900 rebuild and put the cheaper stainless ones on that for a flip...hmmm

is this set worth the premium over the cheaper grates? I want to replace the Stamped SS grates with SS Rod Grates for my Stainless Platinum, but don't know if I want to spend the money on the RCPlane grates. I THINK, YES. BUT AS LARRY SAYS YOU CAN'T DO BETTER THAN RCPLANEBUYER. THAT SAID, THE $75 SET DOES LOOK PRETTY STOUT (8mm) WITH VERY TIGHT SPACING.

I actually think I have a set of CI Grates for this family of grill, is there any distinctive mark that indicates they would be weber OEM

Question the hole in the cookbox, how would I go about fixing this? I was thinking of using JB Weld High Heat. Thoughts?

Yes, I have used that on two cook boxes. One is my personal grill. It works great for the holes just as you show in the photo. It seems to be a one time use product though. Once it is open, it dries out quickly in the container.

Thank you! Glad to say this is the only rotted portion of the cookbox. I have some quick steel putty and i agree it does dry out fast sadly, but the temp rating is only up to 300F, so no go with that. Ordered up the JB Weld, I'll post how it repairs. Should be warming back up to the 50/60s later this week where I can finish the leaves and get this grill painted up.

Did a lot of scraping and started painting. Figured I can at least get the lid done today after the day job and work on some of the cook Box tomorrow. It's supposed to be in the fifties in sixties the rest of this week and this weekend. Perfect opportunity to get this project finished and get ready for the colder weather afterward.

Lid is all done and the hood emblem is restored!

Started working on the manifold. Valve closest to you was seized. Inside peg was bent. Got everything soaking on motor oil, will clean up tomorrow with brake cleaner then put the brake lubricant on for reassembly. I'll be repainting the manifold black too!


****I need some help. I sold my right frame piece thinking the weber 900 and genesis 1000 were the same. They are not, the weber 900 one is shorter, meaning control panel doesn't fit. Does anyone have one?! It is part# 86533 originally. As mentioned the weber 900 frame part# 87757 will not fit.

Yah, that was my suggestion as well. That way, you could probably swap out the cook box as well and not worry about patching the hole in it.
Ironically, I am picking up a free 1000 tomorrow. I had sworn off picking up any more 1000's, but this on has been sitting on FB MP for three days looking dejected and sad for three days, and I was getting worried it was destined for the land fill. It is only about 30 miles or say away, so not too far.
