Union Pacific's Big Boy #4014 schedule for 2021

I might be there, too, Chuck, I'll let ya know! My dad grew up near the Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, PA, and had a lifelong fascination with steam locomotives. As an avid builder of HO gauge layouts (we had one that took up a third of our family room.....my mom was saintly), he built all his rolling stock from kits, paying special attention to the PRR steam locomotives. One of them has been on my fireplace mantel since he passed.

Would be fun to see this Big Boy in person!

I hope you/we do. It'll be cook

I drove by the Roseville yard tonight. I had a company event in downtown Roseville. I’d be up for it since it’s so close by and possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Hopefully my home will be ready for guests by then. Maybe we can do some pub burgers for dinner after the event. Or whatever is easy to grill up.
Your presence isn't optional, it's required

If Brett's not settled in we can cook something at my place.
We’re making solid progress. I hope to have my kitchen organized by next weekend. We’re wrapping up the old house tmrw and then prepping for market Thursday and for 10 days. The usual work to be done.

Here's the official "Roseville" schedule for Big Boy. Unfortunately (for me) I'm taking a nice fat girder job and most likely will miss out seeing the beast

Have fun to any and all who make it

Thanks for those photos, Brett! I wish the timing had worked out for me to see it in person.
You’re very welcome. We got there at 215p when the rush died down but it was hot there for sure.

Stayed around 20 minutes.

The engine is massive. It really fills up the tracks compared to all the cars behind it.

The crew did a whistle demo when I was taking these pics. Deafening. Purely deafening.

Definitely have a sense of pride once seeing her and was happy to learn she was built in Schenectady NY. Having spent some of my childhood in update NY, not too far from Schenectady, it’s pretty cool to know she was made with American parts and labor.

I do stand corrected. Her driving wheels are 68 inches tall. Just shy of 6 feet.

The energy from the crowd was great. And all those little boys and girls, and the adult ones too, really saw something special today.
