Tri-tip sliders

It seemed like another nice balmy afternoon to go light some charcoal and do some grilling outside. Tomorrow may be a crock pot sort of day....

Just happened to have been at Costco the other day and grabbed some tri-tip, and seeing several other people post them here recently got me in the mood. Rounded up a bunch of ingredients, as many of them as possible were home-grown.

When I ran across this vodka, I knew I had to have it and try some Bloody Marys.

My apologies, I only dragged the camera outside for one action shot sitting on indirect heat after putting some sear on.

Rested a bit and time to slice.

If a little Bakon is good, surely more bacon is better? Bloody Mary made with tomato juice & pickles we canned, Smuggler's Lounge horseradish, and whatever other goodies I could think to dump in.

Plated on bagel rolls, with provolone and candied jalapenos. And I sliced some of our very last purple garden potatoes still sitting around and fried them up into very excellent chips. Everybody north of me stay warm, and the California types... well, go surfing or something....

Looks great Clay..I have not tried the vodka yet ...Tri tip looks super!! Sammie's look awesome...you can keep the cold...36 and rain in southeast alaska...I'll take it!!

Nice cooking!

I didn't end up really doing any farming today, but my brother sent this and said he was haying cows down in creek crossings and spreading the bales out, so the cows would go stand down there out of the wind. Just started dropping baby calves, sure hope none of them decide to enter the world tomorrow....

Plated pic looks really good. Seems a little early to start calving but things may be different in Iowa.

It is early, majority of baby calves will be on the ground in March. I kinda think we should gear up to do more of them this early though, it's actually easier to keep them healthy in cold/dry than it is when they are in mud.

Great stuff Clay! Tri-tip cooked to perfection...served on some beautiful bread...candied jalapeños...what more can anyone ask for?

Man! That looks awesome! Thanks for sharing that... Cooked to absolute perfection! Good on you getting out there in the cold and doing some damage!

Love the choice in drink and you slicer... Great knife!

Wow! That looks mighty tasty! You did a great Cook and are posting great pictures. Thanks for sharing

I'm not a big fan of flavored vodka/whiskey/rums, etc. Now bacon flavored - I would give a try. Tri Tip looks great, Clay!

Brian, to be honest, I tried some of it straight up in a martini glass with just a splash of vermouth and a couple of olives-didn't like it much. But it's pretty good in a Bloody Mary.

Edit: I found one good thing about -40 wind chill: you can set a couple ice cube trays outside and be making cocktails with them in about ten minutes!
