Here's a twist... not a joke but rather a riddle:

A farmer died leaving in his will 17 horses to be divided among his 3 sons...

1/2 to the eldest,
1/3 to the middle son, and
1/9 to the youngest...

The probate court was left struggling with the math..

After much discussion they asked the advice of a very wise elderly neighbor farmer who solved the problem of how each of the sons should get the correct number of horses....

(Give it a try to answer... if someone cries uncle I will post the answer.)

That’s that “new math” and I ain’t biting!!
 
It takes a little horse sense to figure out... and looking outside the (math) box.

hint: it's not what you get out of this riddle, it's what you bring to it.
 
I’m guessing that the farmer brought a horse with him, making 18 horses.

oldest son got half (9)
middle son got 1/3 (6)
youngest got 1/9 (2)

total is 9+6+2 = 17.

Farmer got his horse back
