X2 on Stay

I started tuning into a country station occasionally on my long commutes because I found some of the lyrics to be so funny... and it turns out there are some real tear jerkers there as well.

"Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" is one that tugs at patriotic heart strings.

"I loved her first" is a killer for anyone with a teen-aged daughter.

Another vote for Amazing Grace on bagpipes. As we stood on the tarmac of CFB Trenton as my cousin was brought home from Afghanistan, the sound of the bagpipes just went through you. I don't really remember what else was played that day but I now get chocked up anytime I here bagpipes.

I don't know if you can classify it as a tear jerker but
"Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits has always be one of my favorites.

I know this is an old thread, but I have to put in my vote for the song "God Bless The USA" by Lee Greenwood. Ever since 9-11, I can't get through this song without tearing up.

I can think of so many that bring tears to my eyes, most of which are based on memories (are they all?).

#1 - Cat's in the Cradle (Harry Chapin)
#2 - You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin' (Righteous Brothers)
#3 - Runaway Train (Soul Asylum)

Hey Sam, thanks for waking this thread up:

"Can't Fight This Feeling" REO Speedwagon. My late wife's & my fave. She died in '03 from breast cancer at 34, we loved the 80's!

"Come Sail Away" Styx. Ditto.

"Blessed" Lucinda Williams. Haunting.

"Wrapped Around Your Finger" The Police.

I'm gonna take a slightly different route in answering this question.
When I hear "How Great Thou Art" I can't hold back the tears, especially the verse And when I think/ That God, His Son not sparing,/ sent Him to die/ I scarce can take it in/ That on the cross/ my burden gladly bearing/ He bled and died/ to take away my sin.

Clark if you like "How great thou art"
this will surely bring a tear to your eye.
Sung by a one man barbershop quartet.
It just moves me to no end.

Brokedown Palace...Grateful Dead tune. But I heard this version today. My wife is fighting cancer right now and this song just does me in.
