Always a crowd pleaser. Pillsbury taco pie. We change up the filling a bit. I have also found that two cans of crescent rolls works better.
Filling:
1 pound ground meat ( used bison this time)
1 onion chopped.
1 small can diced chilis (I used hot hatch)
1 can refried beans ( used black bean)
Taco seasoning we make our own but you can use packaged.
Taco seasoning:
1 Tbsp. Chili Powder
1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
1/4 tsp. Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
1/4 tsp. Dried Oregano
1/2 tsp. Paprika
1 1/2 tsp. Ground Cumin
1 tsp. Sea Salt
1 tsp. Black Pepper (optional)
2 cans crescent rolls.
Grated cheese
Tortilla chips
Garnish
Choppped lettuce,
Diced tomatoes
Sliced olives
Sliced jalapeño
Sliced avocado or guacamole
Salsa
Directions:
preheat oven to 375°f
In a large cast iron pan add some oil and sauté the choooed onion.
Once it’s translucent add ground meat and brown.
Once browned add taco seasoning, diced chilis and mix well.
Push meat mixture to one side add refined beans. Heat through, mix into meat mixture. Place in low heat.
Open crescent rolls. Roll out and separate into triangles.
Place triangles into a 10” cast iron pan. Cover bottom and up the sides. Press seams together. You can trim around top or roll edge down.
Add meat mixture. Place in oven and bake 15 minutes or until crust is brown.
Top with crushed tortilla chips. For this cook I used red hot blues. Doritos are good too. Fritos makes it like Frito pie. Cover with grated cheese. Add sliced jalapeños and olives.
Return to oven and bake until cheese is melted, bubbly.
Serve with the additional toppings.
I had some extra filling and some extra dough so I made two pie balls.
