Steam-N-Chips

Might, but my sister down just south of St Louis has some horror stories and one of her best friends works in the post office and confirms how bad things are. Remember when they used to say a first class stamp would get a letter anywhere in the lower 48 within two days? hahaha
That's very interesting. My post office has always been excellent for service and fast shipping.

Josh, unsure why you have so much issues with UPS/FedEx. When I sell on EBay they're the only way I ship (unless it's something very small and inexpensive). Have had so many pkgs stolen (yes stolen I actually tracked a stolen cell phone by IMEI), mixer damaged or totally lost. IN any case I think I am guilty of making this thread go sideways. So, I think if any further discussion is hoped for maybe we move it somewhere else.

hummm...Thread going sideways. No way that happens on TVWBB;-)

Yah, I Have noticed that too. Probably just two different suppliers or maybe Weber just changed the design at some point. I am thinking the speckled kind are an older version???

But, the grates match my steam n chips perfectly.

I do have a new set of the grates like you have as well. The specs are very tiny but make it a lighter gray shade.

Here is a comparison photo. The darker ones are the panel that comes with the smokeNchips. The lighter one is from the full set.

Given that the blacker ones came with that old NIB Steam N Chips, that is probably what the early ones looked more like.

EDIT: I looked at my old Genesis XXI (Jr) that is all original and may have original grates. They appear to be a pretty dark gray.

I have had both of these colors in grills I've picked up that were barely used and I'm guessing original to the grills from when they were sold new.

Thanks Jon. your post reminded me that I still have the old smoker box and grates which I am fairly certain are original. A quick check makes it look like they are indeed the darker gray shaded.

My initial thoughts on this were that I would replace the grates with SS solid rod grates. Now I am debating that choice. It would simple to cut a set of SS grates down to accommodate the smoker box. In fact, I might just use a set of 9mm rods. But, then authenticity would be nice too. It is going to be a flip grill ultimately.

You could stick with the original stamped grates and explain to the buyer that this is original equipment and maybe if you want give the option to the buyer to upgrade to 9mm SS.
