Restored 93 Genesis 2200

I should clarify something from above - the fittings on the hose for the side burner are actually 1/8" NPT (not 1/4" NPT like I stated above) - so if I get a 1/8" NPT 90° fitting to go into the main manifold and an 18" hose with 1/8" NPT fittings on each end I should be good to go. Off to search McMaster Carr for fittings.

Joel, that looks like a great solution. You should only need the hose and one elbow adapter with the Mcmaster stuff.

Just one caution however: That hose may not be suitable for propane. It lists it as a "chemical" hose for use with: Acetone, Ethanol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), Mineral Oil, Toluene, Xylene. I would see if they don't have a hose specifically designed for propane/natural gas.

So after picking up some flavor bars and Z-bars from RCPlaneBuyer I've decided I would like to go with more stainless on the grill.

I'm going to leave the Z-bars unpainted, I think it looks better with the gloss finish of the wood:

So one piece I would like to swap out is the front panel - I think it would look really good with a SS panel from a Genesis Gold B/C but I'm not sure which one will fit best - the earlier piece from the 01-02 grills Weber part #70531 or if the newer one will work Weber part #60560

So if any of you guys have any input or have one of those panels laying around let me know.

Thanks!

Also I just got the firebox back from the sandblaster today

It's been a while but I've slowly been working on things and the grill is done - now I just have to push through the urge to keep it as a looker instead of a cooker.

So here things go.

Cookbox painted Rustoleum high heat ultra

I also went the extra mile on the wheels - the wheels felt a little loose to me so I installed some bushings, removed the outer rings - painted them red and painted the background white, I also went all out on stainless hardware including the axles.

I replaced the front casters with red wheels, painted the lower cross bars red, made my own front panel out of a SS door kick panel, replaced the propane tank wheels with red wheels, and did red wheel center caps on the axles in other words lots of little custom touches.

RCplanebuyer flavor bars are the only way to go and I also found a NOS Weber steam and chips set-up so I went ahead and picked that up for $25.

The wood didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it but it still looks good, swapped the hood and black knobs from my dads old grill as well.

Now here is the twist - I've kinda become more of a charcoal guy over the years and having side burners on previous grills I know I'll never use them so I thought I'd ad something I'd really use - so here's a "convertible" Genny.

I added a Weber Jumbo Joe in place of the side burner - tried to keep the grill height the same.

Fabricated my own mount brackets, with thumb screws so I can remove and dump out the ash.

I added an 18" Mastertouch ash pan and one touch ash sweep to make sure the ash doesn't interact with the propane.

So cool! We have been enjoying a string of some exceptionally well restored "stock look" redheads, and now we are starting to see some equally nice custom jobs. Besides all the beautiful restoration work, what you have there is a classy way to have a "dual" grill. Forget all those Charbroil and Oklahoma Joe (sad use of that great name) double-side rust buckets that don't do either job well. Your is a great gasser AND charcoal grill. Awesome adaptations.

Take lots of pictures for posterity, and then fire her up and let us see your creation in action!

Oh, make sure this thread is added to our Genesis restoration sticky!

Yah, it is going to be hard to dirty that thing up. I love the mods. It is nice seeing something different from time to time.

Well that is an interesting add on. Details are amazing. Get yourself some RCP grates as well and you will have an unbeatable cooking machine. YOu cannot imagine how pleasurable it is to cook on really good grates

Adding the JJ is pure genius. I would like a more detailed explanation of that
mod if you wouldn't mind.

I started with a new JJ and used the flat spot on the kettle where the charcoal rate sits as a mount point - drilled four holes on that flat area to mount to the brackets which I had to make from scratch. I started with aluminum sheet and used a metal break to bend up the Z brackets, I got the height right but missed on the width, so I used 2" aluminum bar stock to finish the mounts. I put riv-nuts in the frame to hold it in place.

The mastertouch ash-catcher wasn't bad, I had to drill a 1" hole in the bottom of the grill for ash sweeps - but the ash sweeps were too long so I had to cut them off a bit - which meant that they wouldn't seal the vents when closed so I still used the provided bottom vent from the JJ but drilled a hole in the tab so it would open and close with the ash sweeps.
I had to make some aluminum tabs to mount the upper section of the ash catcher to the provided holes for the legs.

Hopefully that fills in some blanks - happy to answer any questions you may have.

That's an amazing looking grill! You're just showing off at this point. :) My safety antenna goes up when I see a charcoal grill so close to a propane tank, so be careful.
