Reason to Celebrate Number 4000

Some of you may have noticed I haven’t been posting for a week or so, or maybe not. Anyway the reason is I’m coming up on my 4000 post, and trust me I don’t do a lot of the same things. I lose interest in most things I do and move on to something else.
But the friends Barb and I have made here and the wonderful things we have learned keeps me coming back every day.
So I wanted to do something kind of special for this milestone, at least a milestone for me anyway.

As some of you know we lost our Golden Retriever Holly who was Raddy’s pup, our other Golden last November. After fighting our way through her diabetes in June and getting her back to her old self she picked up a virus from a tick bite and couldn’t overcome the infection.
Barb and I were devastated, but even more so Raddy, as she missed her buddy of nine years. We thought about getting another Golden but at our advancing age a 60-70 pound dog is a bit much for us now.

So the search started to find a rescue pup that that needed a helping hand and a second chance and was manageable and would be a buddy for Raddy in her senior years.

After three months of searching all over the Western states we think we found the one and here she is.

Meet Patches, a one year old Aussie mix that’s full of love and energy. She was snatched from a high kill shelter in New Mexico. She is recovering from surgery on her front leg due to a birth defect and will be 100% when she recovers. We adopted her from a rescue organization here in Prescott Az.

She is just the right size at thirty pounds and big enough to go bird and lizard busting with Raddy out in the fields by our home.

Even our snarky old lady Raddy approves, it should be an interesting match.

Barb and I are thrilled that we can give this pup that had such a rough start in life and still is as friendly and happy as can be a fresh start and a forever home.

Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate number 4000!

Congrats to you Rich on your 4K.
Congrats to Patches, she couldn't have found two better people to own. :)
She is a beauty!!

Thank you both for choosing a rescue dog! They will have a lot of fun together. Congrats on your 4000th post and many more thousands to both of you.

You and your wife are some of the most enjoyable people on the forum, it would not be the same without you two. Congrats on your rescue pup, Patches. Only in the last couple years did I even get a thought about animals in shelters, low and behold we've 4 rescue cats and 1 rescue dog. It's a joy having rescue pets and I know Patches serves special meaning in your home. Enjoy your new pup and keep the posts coming. At 4K, you're kinda lagging :p

Rich, I just have one question. Does Patches benefit with table scraps when you cook? My cats love it when we do chicken.

That was my first thought, exactly! That's one lucky dog being around two weber grill masters! The food Patches will get now will be great for her. She hit the lottery when she adopted you two! Amazing post, amazing people! Thanks for sharing this story.

Oh yeah, but in moderation. It's amazing, Patches had a really rough start to her young life and the look on her face when she tasted her first little piece of chicken, totally priceless! She just sat there starring at me like I was some kind of food guru.

I picked up a smokey joe at a yard sale for five bucks and used it for the first time last night to do a couple of nice chuck eyes and Barb did some gus and a couple of bakers. Patches was mesmerized by the smells from the SJ and stayed right in front of it for the total cook.
By the way she likes beef just as much as chicken, go figure.

Also Barb and I want to thank all of you for the very kind words. We both feel blessed that we found this site and all the great people on it. If we occasionally put a smile on your face that's just the payback for the smiles you've put on ours.

Rich you made my day! Good for you! our Golden is also a rescue and he is without a doubt, my best grilling buddy.

Rich & Barb, congrats on the new family member. And the 4k post too. We know that Patches will bring your family many happy times. Blue has livened up our house in the last month. My mom called her our little treasure.
