This has me thinking about stores no longer around. How about Best. They had some cool architecture on their stores. I believe they eventually surcom to competition such as Target and Walmart.

You can't make this stuff up.
Maine DOT denies request from PETA to put up memorial for lobsters killed in crash

So I thought this was funny and decided to share it elsewhere. A friend of mine comments,

"Makes me wonder what someone from PETA would do if they contraced crabs?"

Yes I was laughing MAO. But then I got to wonder, what would they do?

I want to buy a new baseball glove and I don't know why. I was in a sporting goods store and came across a Rawlings Heritage Pro ourfielder's glove. Looked great, smelled great. Such beautiful design and craftsmanship. Made me want to buy one and a baseball...and do what?

Did you get it??

Did you get it??

No. I'm afraid of what Mrs. TVWB would say if I did. "You big dummy" or similar. Actually, she wouldn't say that or even think that, but she'd just shake her head...kind of like when Bob Correll helped me get that old WSM in Missouri. Same reaction. :D

Yes, Best Products Catalog Showroom! I remember the store on Arden Way in Sacramento. The corner of the building "cracked off" and rolled open at the beginning of each business day and closed up each night.

I also remember Consumers Distributing catalog stores and of course Blue Chip Stamp catalog showrooms.

I beg your pardon, I did fly in an L-1011 from Miami to Atlanta, and I think it was Lockheed's version of a jumbo jet.
Flew on Delta L-1011s many times between SFO and ATL during 1989-1991. The suspending lighting system over the aisles would shake and rattle like crazy during takeoff!

An obscure bit of L-1011 trivia...does anyone remember the system that lifted garment bags into the ceiling for storage? Back in the day when business people traveled with garment bags? :D

I remember the Best stores, what I didn't remember, until my wife just told me, is that it's where we bought our wedding rings.
Wiki says they were in business from 1957 to 1997.

Never had a chance to fly on or even see the inside of the L1011. I got into the airline business too late for that.

No, we boarded at night and couldn't see much of anything.

I do remember banking at 45° while circling Hartsfield airport however. The pilot gave us fair warning before making the maneuver.

Atlanta has a busy airport. We must've been 10 planes deep before taking off for Charlotte.

Back to fishing. Anyone remember "Doll Flies"? Leadhead jigs and more.
Long story short...my father in law was Elmer Otis Thompson Jr. of Thompson Fishing Tackle Co. Elmer Otis was Doll. Not only was he a terrific fisherman, father and husband...he could catch fishermen. From a very modest start of tying flies on his apartment kitchen table he built a company that was the world's largest manufacturer of jigs. Doll could make friends everywhere he went. The best friend you would ever have. His success allowed him to employ many people over the years. He sold his business to Brunswick Co. and became a board member. Later I worked with him for about 5 years and I learned more from him the many learn getting an MBA. A fine man missed by all who knew him.
