Pulled pork chili

I ran across some of these small chunks of pork butt on sale for $1.19/pound and thought they would work nice to have around for some day when I wanted to do a pulled pork cook that didn't take 12 or 16 hours. Seemed like just the thing to get out when I got in the mood to do some chili.

Some of it pulled and in the pot.

Got out some of last summer's heirloom tomatoes and jalapenos.

Getting happy in the pool with beans, onions, chili powder, cumin, etc.

I can't think of much good to say about this miserable winter, but Blue Moon seasonal samplers aren't half bad...

And just for giggles because there was still room for another pic- tonight's boring meat & potato dinner of minute steak fried in bacon grease, and pepper gravy from the pan drippings. It wasn't too bad either for cold-weather comfort food.

Great looking chili. Small chunks of pork butt like that seem optimal to me, but I've never seen them.

Not the normal around here either, but I kinda liked them. More surface area to get bark and rub on seems like a good thing to me. And they certainly didn't seem to get too dry or anything, although probably not quite as forgiving of cooking time as a large pork butt.

Both cooks look terrific Clay!
Bacon grease = pig nectar!

I've cut whole butts into 3 or 4 pieces for pulled pork, lots of nice bark that way, and faster cook time.

Great Cookin' Clay!
and
Great Photos Clay!

really hopin' for some AWESOME acreage photos too... but I get that the daggum cold kills many ambitions... :(

Your chile looks great, we just tried making some white meat chicken chile last week with pulled pork instead of chicken as the protein. I should have tried taking some pictures to show but the chile didn't last long enough to take any pictures. I'm definately going to do the pulled pork chile again soon.
