Pretzel Dogs and Sausages

Saw a couple of youtube video cooks I wanted to try. One was from the Kamado Joe site where he took pretzel dough and wrapped it around some brats and the other was from BBQFOODFORU where he took a clay tool and cut out a grove in a hot dog added cheese and wrapped in bacon. I kind of took both ideas and sort of mashed the two together.

The sausages and hot dogs I used.

Instead of making my own dough I used store bought pizza dough and I didn't have a clay tool but I did have a paper clip and it did the job just fine.
Sausages wrapped in the dough and grooves cut in the dogs and a couple stuffed with some sharp cheddar

Closeup of the dogs

Made a soda water bath and dunked each sausage and dog two at a time for a minute

After their bath I did an eggwash and sprinkled everything with a little Kosher salt. I added a toothpick to the dogs just so I knew which side the cheese was on. Had a little dough left over to make a couple of pretzels, I need practice on shaping them obviously!

Approx. 15 minutes later everything is done

Resting

Served with some tomato soup and some plain ole yellow mustard for dipping.

Dayum!.....

>>>edit: Now see what you did - I just now tried to make something similar....cubes of cheddar wrapped in tube biscuit dough..... I let them go in the boiling soda water, sprayed w/ a little habanero evoo I started a few days ago, salted, & into the toaster oven. Good stuff

They fit nicely for Halloween because the look like mummies. When I was a kid my mom made hot dogs stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. She did hers in the oven and I always wanted to try that on the grill. I like your take on it. Nice job.

Did they taste half as good as they look, John?
You should patent that groover tool (I know, I'm the tool!) :)

John, that is fantastic and so easy to do I like it. Have a question it looks like you cooked it on parchment paper? Like some has said great for game day eats!!

I've done similar with Pillsbury crescent rolls, but I didn't stuff them with cheese, use the soda bath, and I used my kitchen oven. The next time I do them, I'm going to do them the way you outlined, they look delicious.

Hey John since you used pizza dough, sausage and cheese that could be a way non traditional pizza, just needs a little sauce.
They look great!
