With all the recent increase in pork and meat prices I decided to do a low budget cook yesterday.

Maybe we should start a low budget meal thread and we can share recipes that can be done on the grill?????

In the northern parts of Mexico they call nopales "poor mans" steaks.

Here's how I did mine.....

Started with a Pico de gallo. 4 Serrano , 1/4 onion, 2 tomatoes juice of 1 lemon.

Seasoned with a little lemon pepper

Nopales seasoned with chef merito and garlic salt. The 6 pack of nopales was $2

Nice looking tacos!!! My SIL has a bunch of cactus plants behind her house but they are producing anymore new leaves so lately I have been having to buy mine.

Having never cooked nopales: A couple minutes on each side until they soften? Still crunchy?
On my to do list, they look good, Tony!

Yeah a few minutes on each side. I do them until soften. Don't worry if they get dark. For some reason you can't taste the char.

I'm going to have to try em now..looks good Tony!! I have not had them but my wife talks about em all the time...
