Lump Bird

I've been using lump more and more lately.
Not to become a charcoal purist, but because it's locally made, not owned by a large corporation, and I love the smell.
Using it beyond hot and fast steak grilling has created a small learning curve for me.
Didn't fire up enough last night, had to add some fresh near the cook's end.

Spatchcocked, skin perforated with a spike tenderizer tool, and rubbed with Oakridge Santa Maria.

Breast was done before the legs, so I removed them to finish.

Bob, as a lump lover myself I was wondering what brand are you using? And @ what price?
Great looking chicken too. I like your pic of your flag there too.

Nice dinner Bob. I've only used lump once many years ago that someone gave me. Might be time to give it a try again for giggles. I do remember it smelled good, not like stinky KBB.

Thanks Russ and Rich!
I have a couple bags of Ozark Oak stashed, heard they were bought out by RO.
Currently using Rockwood, it sells here for $18 to $20 for a 20 lb bag.
I have tracked down Rockwood's maker, Timber Charcoal, and they sell 20 lb bags at the plant for $10.
But unless I bought a lot the gas cost to Salem, MO and back would not make it worth one's while.

Rich, your neighbors might miss the bellowing smoke. :)
I sometimes mix Kbb with lump.

Wish quality lump was available here
Hard to find Stubb's too.
Sunday bird looks great Bob... As does your Old Glory

That's some mighty fine looking chicken Bob, your sides great. Love the flag awesome pic.

I've used two types, Cowboy, which I found up in Oregon and Royal Oak. Bought 800 lbs of KBB last Labor Day and that is now gone. Have used that pretty much out of habit I guess. Anyway, the bird and plate look fantastic Bob.
