Just picked up a couple Redhead grills

I find myself down in Tucson with Mom and Dad and Sis....
I don't have ANY thought of visiting them any time soon...... I was out there in april and it was too much for me.
That said --- 85 sucked here today..... calling for low 90s coming up......

I'm still in interested in hearing how you like cooking on a Genesis 1000 after you have already used some of Weber's newer models. I've only ever cooked on a Weber Genesis 1000 so maybe I'm the one who's missing out on something?
One way to find out. Steve if I had to guess it would probably be like everything else. A difference in opinion from one person to the next. But also now that I have taken new ones and old ones a part down to the last nut and bolt and rebuild them back up I can tell you 100% something you already know. The old Webers are built to a much higher standard and the configuration of the dual layer Flavorizer bars is a better design for heat distribution across the entire Grill. You can tell they didn't cut corners on those old ones. All of the newer ones that I've worked on have been in as bad or worse shape then the 30-year-old Webers I have now. Biggest deciding factor for me is that I can build an older Weber to last the rest of my life. I cannot do that with a newer one. Other than that honestly I bet they both cook quite well. New and old. After I bought my first brand new Weber in my early 20s I remember going over to a friend's house and trying to cook on his cheep barbecue and it was a train wreck. Uneven heat poor temperature regulation. I don't see the old Webers especially the 13 bar cooking worse than a new one. Even if it just Cooks as good as a new one I would be happy because I have so many more reasons to invest in an old one over a new one.

To be honest, it wouldn't even matter to me if the new ones cooked better than what I have. For all the reasons you just mentioned and more I prefer my grill. Now, if Weber ever wises up and rereleases a Weber Genesis 1000 'classic', I will go out and buy one. Maybe they will if their market share ever deteriorates enough. They are still undoubtedly getting by on name brand for now.

Yes to everything you just said.
I'm sold on the old.

For the same reason I got rid of all of my new furniture bed frames and dressers and nightstands etc... I replaced it all with old solid hardwood furniture. Refinished it all myself. More than enough furniture for both houses and I sold the rest.
