It's that time of the year...no charcoal for a while.

As I said earlier in this thread, we have a 20K acre cattle ranch adjacent to our subdivision. The pictures below show the fire we had three years ago. The fire destroyed numerous homes just 1/4 of a mile from us with nothing but dry grass between us and the burning homes.
Fortunately, the fire fighters were able to contain it and we were spared.
You don't have to live in the forest to be in danger.
Last night we had quite the lighting storm with plenty of rain, fortunately no fires were started by the lighting.

Since my comment didn't make the grade, I'll word it otherwise:

Cause of fires in the "great state."

PG&E ill maintained equipment (most)
Arson (several)
Lightening (a few)
BBQ (none)

And right on cue...we'll soon know if "none" becomes "one". Cause is still under investigation.

Associated Press, Jackson CA, July 6, 2022: Evacuation orders were expanded Tuesday for remote California communities near a wildfire that may have been sparked by fireworks or a barbecue on the Fourth of July in a mountainous region that's a top tourism destination.

I've asked you before to not misspell our state name. It's an expression of displeasure with politics, regulation, etc. and runs counter to forum posting policy. Please refrain.

We just had a fire start @ 2:16pm at the top of Main St. where the city ends and National Forest begins. All dry brush up there. Thankfully the city and CalFire put all available resources on it. 2 Brush (rough terrain) engines, 2 Regular engines, 3 All Terrain Prevention trucks, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Water Tanker, and 1 of CalFire's new Helos.
I have no idea what started this fire. We'll get updates later. I would say many of the fires we see around here are campfires that escaped.

Update: at 4:10 fire's out. Doing rehab. 0.41 acres. USFS also provided resources.

Grant does your area have “spare the are days” as well?
We get that here in the Bay Area a lot.
We also get the dummies that start fires with firework.
I like fireworks but you have to be safe.

Our place in North West Washington is unincorporated.
The garbage company doesn’t even supply the green yard waste can.
We are expected to burn our yard waste until 7/1.
Does your area have yard waste burn dates?

We are 30 minutes from town and have no fireworks restrictions other than common sense.
I personally only allow a small amount of the big ones that burst over the water on my land.
No fire crackers or any of that crazy stuff that can start a fire or litter on my land.

Not even pellets, that’s rough.
Are you located in a large city?
I pass the exit to that area on I-5 all the time it doesn’t really seen that urban.

I once thought the San Francisco high rises were strict for not allowing charcoal ,but I don’t after realizing how some people act.

Just to add,
One thing we do when we set off fireworks is run a portable lawn sprinkler in the area we light our mortars for a couple of hours or so just so any spark has less of a chance to do damage.
We also have on the ready several charged long water hoses to use in case of emergency mainly for if our neighbors send sparks or danger our way.

That's just not true. A simple search turns up many fires that are grill-related:

Fires are deadly, I am glad of where I live but fire can cause problems anywhere , Gatlinburg had a bad fire a few years ago that killed some folks, drove through the area a few months later, sad lot of near vertical mountains with lots of rental cabins toasted . a flat top griddle is a wonderful tool when you can't use the grill or smoker imo. variety is the spice of life lol

No fire issues here, ever. Our normal problem is too much water. The ground squishes when you walk.
