Ice Storm

So it's been a day (and a previous night too). Managed to come down with food poisoning yesterday. Spent the whole night blowing chunks. Then today we've got this ice storm. Everything coated in about 1/2" of ice, Power flashing in and out, and wind is blowing my Genesis skidding on the ice. Daughter had transformer blow up in her back yard. Kaboom! SO may have house guests since no heat there. At least I have the generator and the fireplace that doubles as a furnace. So even if I dont hook up the genset we'll have heat

I know of 2 separate families that had the same thing blowing chunks for two days!!!! One of my work buddies got it so bad he was admitted for dehydration. Very odd!! Hope you're better soon. I hope i don't loose power!!!!!

I'm already NOT complaining about the weather up here, I'll take it over that crud you're getting, @LMichaels . At least tomorrow afternoon when I do go out to clear the slab, it'll all blow easily right down to the concrete. 21 F and about 6" in the last 30 hours, with better than a foot still predicted over the next 24.

I'd say that I hope things blow over <snicker> but I wouldn't want you getting on the road to come up here and commit atrocities on my person. MN has pulled all of the plows off the road as of 5:00 PM, and I'm really hoping that nothing else goes wrong at work that would require my hands-on presence (I already have a drive to replace 50 miles away, that's waiting until Friday.)

I saw there were some weather extremes coming. I'm on the other end of it. Almost 80 here today which is crazy. Y'all stay warm up there.

Hehe....we have a cold weather warning going on here...down to -40 with wind chill the next couple nights....I'll take the blowing wind and snow over blowing chunks any day!! :) They both always feel like there is no end in sight!

Get well soon and good luck!

Best wishes Larry. Sorry to hear about the food poisoning. Terrible timing. We know you'll step up for the family - this is exactly why we plan for the worst.
I'm sure you and your wife will take care of all who need help. Your family and friends are lucky to have you all in their corner.

We have about 1/3-1/2” of ice everywhere! So far no power loss here but, also not much wind that could change soon.
Larry, what’s the deal with you and food poisoning!? This is the third time you’ve shared this information in less than a year!

Turns out it's unlikely it was food poisoning. Had heard from daughter yesterday re the transformer blowing up in her back yard. She said out little Lilly (soon to be 2 yo) is very sick with something she likely caught in day care. Diaper blowouts, puking and such. And it turns out poor Fred who was playing with Lilly on Sunday has also come down with the same. So I guess it was just my "turn" to get the Lilly "curse" is all. Feel bad for the poor little thing. But, she's younger and stronger than me and Fred LOL. And now wifey is kinda down in the dumps with something from the girls
Anyway on the mend today for most part. No long term power loss yesterday. Just the very annoying drops and surges. Gotta hand it to ComEd they got transformer replaced and power back up within 2.5 hours for daughter's house.
Still pretty thick coating of ice this AM but wind is way down which helps and temp is just above freezing. So the ice is "losing" it's battle. THough now we have thick fog.
Fun times :D

The rest are in other parts of the yard, the crabapple is in the curb lawn, the spruce and maple in the front yard. To be honest, the piece of walnut in the back had broken in a BIG wind storm last summer, this just brought it down, no real damage, I’ll have to cut a new bistro light support out of the branch to replace the one it broke but, that’s a good little sit on the deck with a beverage project. Well maybe after I finish with the chainsaw, a cocktail.

We're headed to 72 degrees and sunny today. I'm going out on a limb and say we're not getting any snow here this winter. I'm quite OK with that.
Home construction has had a great season...weather has not been a factor but for rain and it's been warm enough almost every day to pour concrete.

30 degrees and a quarter inch of snow last night, nothing compared to the night before with 70-80 wind gust and 35 mph steady winds all night.
Fortunately no damage to the house. Snow today but nothing we can't handle.
Glad to here you're on the mend Larry, Not knowing what end to drop into the crapper first ain't no fun.:(

Was just talking to my sister in law who is a PAC nurse with Master Degree. She told me there is a Norovirus going around especially in Daycare settings. All the symptoms fit so she thinks it's what we have contracted.

Another winter storm has hit the Oregon Coast Range. This time we have a little over a foot of snow on the ground, and with temperatures only making it UP to freezing for the next few days it's going to be white for a while.
