I will just leave this here

Thanks, Bruce. I take it, based on the earlier discussion, that the 2000+ S/G/P models have a shallower firebox that cannot be retrofitted with a double row of bars?

That is right. The box is shallower and doesnt have the ledges in the cook box to hold the xtra row. If you tried to lay them on top, they would likely but up against the cooking grates any way.

So, if you want a 13 bar cook box, you need to find a Genesis grill prior to model year 2000.

It's a long drive for a grill. But, I made the same trip for a grill a few weeks ago. The missing cross member can be replaced fairly easily. It otherwise looks in pretty good shape. One of the big problems you find with the black and consequently Skyline hoods tend to get a bad case of "haze" on the top. It is something that cannot be fixed but nothing that will impact the use of the grill at all.

If you really want it, then you should contact the guy and ask if it has any gray hazing on the top. Maybe ask for a better photo. Then go get it if it acceptable. Otherwise, you might just sit on it for a few days and if it hasn't sold, then contact him, mention the missing cross member and offer $20. Also ask what the frame looks like on the left side of the cook box as that is an area that tends to rust out pretty bad. Hopefully it isn't an issue in San Diego though. More likely the hazing will be the biggest issue.

Oh, that would be a 13 bar grill and it would get you a virtual membership card to the "SKYLINE CLUB" which Jon Tofte is president of.

BTW: I Have that same grill for sale right now: https://madison.craigslist.org/for/d/wisconsin-dells-weber-genesis-1000/6973709360.html

You can see the hazing on top that I am talking about.

Oh, one more thing. That grill still has the wire codiment rack on the front right side. Those are usually missing and very hard to come by.

Stephan, that looks like the classic blue lid to me. However, I am confirmed color blind...hahaha
Anyway, Here is what a painted lid looks like.

Ok. Agreed. Looking at the pic from my phone the lid looks blue. Somehow the color settings on my office monitor is off. It kind of looked purplish on my monitor.

Purple and Blue are two of the colors I cannot differentiate real well. Being a Vikings fan, I would Love to find a factory Purple colored hood.

Is there a place on the board for pictures of finished restoration projects? I've looked but may have missed it. I thought it might make a nice sticky for people to show off their finished grills. It would also be nice to have one location to see a bunch of nice grill pictures. Thoughts?

No particular place we just put them out there. But PLEASE try to use Imagur and post the BBC share code not the links. If you post the share code the photos actually show up and we don't have to chase links all over the place

"there a place on the board for pictures of finished restoration projects? I've looked but may have missed it. "

No. But now that you mention it I think maybe there should be. I kind of like that idea. When I have time I'm going to start working on something like that. If it flies and people like it maybe the board will have a spot like that in the future.

Then Larry can count the number of sections and subsections in the form again because there are already too many.

Sorry Larry, I'm just messing with you. Sometimes I can't help poking the bear. :);):);)

This looks close enough for tailgating on game day. And take it easy on the Lions this season.

I have seen a couple of those color of Q grills. However, they are too far off the darker purple that the Vikings use. Besides, that, to me, looks like Pink but I am color blind. I ain't grillin' on no pink grill.

As for the Lions, until recently, they were a real pain in the but for the Vikings. No mercy.

I've created a new subforum for this: Restored Weber Gas Grill Photos

Let's try it for a while. If it doesn't fly, I can just fold the posts back into the main gas grill forum. One issue I foresee is that most of you are posting the progress of restorations from beginning to end, so very few "finished restoration only" posts. But we'll see how it goes.

Dave: that is horrible. That grill should be listed for $100 higher. I have a Skyline listed and it hasn't had much action either. Just a couple trolls so far. Fall is setting in up here and people are already out of the summer mode. I am working on a Blue Silver B and that might be the end for me this year. But, I ain't giving away any of my grills. They can sit in my garage until next spring if necessary. And If I couldn't get over $200 for one of my grills, I would quit the rehab business. You have $100 just in grates, flavo bars, burners and igniter. Not to mention the cost of the grill itself. Oh, and it has a LP tank cover too...

Dave you could post that up in the new sub-forum for rehabbed grills.

Dave,
That is an extra sharp grill, excellently done by you as always! I agree with Bruce - at the very least that I would stand your ground. It does seem that buyers come in waves, with some peaks and some long valleys, too. Right now I am working on marketing my two old 26er flat tops on the WKC site. Getting some good interest but no one locked in yet.

I wish I had that Gold to list here. I think $275 would be very doable but don’t have enough experience to prove that. As you have noticed, many people do seem to gravitate to the newer grills not knowing the quality deficiencies. I still like the x000s and Silver/Golds like yours. I am in my fall “second tax season” but hope to get back on gas grills after that and hopefully will learn the truth about current tastes in my market. Here in Florida we are still a ways from prime time grilling weather that November brings.
