I will just leave this here

Story time! I thought some of you folks would enjoy this one, keep in mind that I am 40, and my dad is 66.

I was showing my dad some of the pics of my grills I have, and then came a pic of the red head genesis 1, and he said, you know thats the same one I had when you were a little shaver? I knew he had a redhead at one point in my youth, but I was not really sure of exactly when. So I asked him if he was certain it was this exact model. He said "Did they all have that? (pointing at the wire basket next to the control panel), cuz I never really thought that served much of a purpose, kind of stupid to me"

He nailed it! I asked if he ever wanted another one... he said he got rid of it after a few years (doesn't recall who he gave it to) because he just liked the flavor of charcoal better, and after 30+ years without it, he doubts that his mind will change any. We couldn't pinpoint the exact year he got it. My mom said it was after I was out of diapers (which I would believe she was correct about). So they are thinking it was sometime between 1987-1989, because they got it (a floor model) at cost from the hardware store her dad had owned, and his long-time employee bought. They thought they gave it away sometime prior to my dad purchasing the shop from his dad, in 1997.

That's a really cool story Cody thank you for sharing!!

Very cool story, Cody! Sounds like you got that one ID'd exactly right.

My Dad never had a Weber, but I kind of remember him talking about wishing he did. I can't imagine what he would think if he saw the overflowing collection of Weber grills I currently have in my shop and storage sheds!

My mom’s dad started an annual tradition in my town of a Memorial Day Chicken BBQ, using the inaugural day and for many years later, to promote Weber grills for his True Value back in the early 60’s. Last year we sold over 800 chicken dinners, of which I helped cook the chicken. No longer on Weber’s but in an on-site permanent brick grill that’s about 40’ long.

A pretty cool operation, that note is a big fundraiser for our local chamber of commerce. All started by a man who had a passion for (selling) Weber grills

That would have been a better story, but when Cody said his Dad gave the grill away after a few years I knew he wasn't impressed with it. To each his own.
He’s charcoal thru and thru and if not for a random bus driver calling in sick and having to cover a summer school bus route, it’s likely I never fall into this rabbit hole that we so affectionately call Weberitis.

My Dad was a Weber kettle guy and he even made a few negative comments about my then new 1998 Genesis 1000 when I got it. I got him a Silver B for Christmas a few years later and he never used the kettle again. I remember the day I dragged old faithful down to the curb and he didn't say a word. So like I said, to each his own. You either get the Weber gasser or you don't.

He’s had some mighty fine food from my 330. But I know full well that the man won’t change how he does things… although we have taught him to text over the last few years, so maybe there’s hope 🤣
