I will just leave this here

According to the ad, that is the best portable charcoal grill Weber made. If that’s true, why?

I can only say that I LOVE using the CharQ!. I understand its limits as a quick hot grill for burgers, chops, steak, etc. I don't expect to do multi-hour barbecue on it, although some people have made some interesting adaptations. I personally would way rather cook on one of these than a Go Anywhere or Smokey Joe.

I would add a CharQ to my arsenal if the price was right. Would be a nice addition to the jumbo joe. Now that we are scaling down our outdoor cooking somewhat and with just the two of us, I think I could use one.

Rich,
I think you would be hooked! I wish shipping wasn't such a di$a$ter these days. I have a second one that I would give you a great deal on, but the shipping cost would probably be outrageous.

Yep, best bet is to watch the for sale sites. They pop up around here every so often. Just have to find the ones where people don't think they own a gold mine.

I am sure those are great grills based on your experience, but since PK is still making portable charcoal grills, I would consider one of those also if it was available at a decent price.

John,

Yes, that PK portable looks really nice. More depth for fuel, I think. The grate has rather wide spacing, but it is still a great grill and at a very good price. I would like to have a try on one of those!

I think the problem with the CharQ is when Weber decided to basically convert the Q200 to coal. Had they redesigned the base and lid to be deeper and taller, I think they could have had a winner. But then they would have had to charge more for them, I suppose.

Didn’t Weber do the same thing with their kettle grill early on?

Slapped a gas burner inside and called it a gas grill?

How long did that last on the market?

I guess when you have a good name and large market share you can afford to throw “stuff” at a wall to see what sticks.

Did not last long. But, because it was an absolutely awful grill. Did not perform well, difficult to light and use. It just did not go well

My son lives in So Cal which isn't too far from us. I'm getting rid of all my fishing tackle, and he said he would buy the tackle box from me. I told him he could have it, well it's a fairly large box with three drawers and weighs about 30+ pounds.
Cost from USPS was $68 and UPS was just shy of $80.
We decided he could pick all of it up when he comes out next month for a visit.

Can't imagine what that grill would cost from where you live.

With the Char-Q, the cast iron grates are probably at least half the weight. If they could fit in a flat rate priority mail box, the grill may not be too costly to ship by itself.

Sell it to him on EBay and you get a huge shipping discount :D

Yep, I was talking with Jon T when he visited me and I have one of those old rust orange lids. He said he thought they were from first year Genesis 1 grills and then he looked up the brochure and sure enough, it was.
