I will just leave this here

Too bad. Most of them are like that I am afraid. I do like that GBS compatible cast iron grate. I had someone donate one of these grills for me to rehab for our Thrift Store. I swapped in one of my lower end stainless grates and kept the cast iron GBS like this one here :giggle:. It was my small fee and a shiny new stainless grate looks better for selling anyway.

I was surprise to see the scale. I didn't remember mine having a scale. Instead the hole on the bottom I thought was smaller and the tank just sat in it.

Speaking of rusty floorboards...

This is kind of what I had in mind for my Genesis floorboard, but this guy took the easy way around. Probably used cheap pine and didn't bother to stain.

The first time I saw a wooden improvised bottom I thought it was crazy. However, it really isn't a bad idea at all. In the one in the picture it doesn't appear he put on a metal piece for the door magnets to stick to. When I redid my Genesis Platinum and got rid of the bottom, I replaced it with horizontal stainless tubes and then used durawood trays with aluminum z bar holders for the bottom. I tried to install a steel strike piece, but it was too small. Now my door pops open all the time. Someday I will get it fixed:rolleyes:. Measure twice, cut once...

I agree it's a good idea to use wood. Replacing it with the same metal floor that rusted in the first place isn't too bright.

When I get around to it, I'm using cedar wood with a dark stain on my rusty Genesis.

I found some strong thin magnets on Amazon I plan to use to solve the door opening issue.

Wood floors are a great idea and an excellent way to keep a grill serviceable.
However, I question the re-salability aspect. Has anyone tried flipping one
of these? At first glance, I would not think they would sell for very much, and
that you likely be better off keeping the unit as a donor parts grill. Thoughts???

Dave, I am in the same mindset as you. I would consider it for a personal grill, but I would be skeptical that it would be good for the inside of a cabinet flip grill. But, then, who knows. If it is done right and professionally, then maybe. Using wood to replace the wire racks on the open cabinet grills I think would go over a bit better.

I have also build a cedar plank wood floor for mine. Originally for the Silver C and then moved it to the Platinum C. I used washers screwed in the wood for the door magnets to hold on. I also used the clamps from the original metal floor to keep the wood floor in place.

Stefan, that looks great. Basically what I had in mind for mine, except I'll also be doing the back and one of the sides in similar wood.

I think with the right type of wood, spacing of wood, hardware and stain it would look very professional and flip worthy, and still be cheaper than buying a new metal floorpan.

Jon:
What kind of wood did you use on the bottom and what kind of finish did you give it?

I used the plastic “durawood” for my slats. Wood would have worked, though. I liked the gray durawood that blends well with the Genesis Platinum.

Jon, for some reason, that posted three times. But now that you mention it, I think I supplied some of those durawood slats.

Probably fell asleep on the enter key again. He will wake up in a couple hours with the Home Row printed across his forehead.

This is a rare 2000-2001 Genesis Gold, isn't it?

David: I know the badge on the lid says GOLD, but I thought those unique side tables and the larger frame legs were on Platinum's. I could be wrong though. THat is a pretty nice grill for $70.
