Has anyone eaten peanuts in the shell lately?

This has got to be the lamest thing I've ever posted...

Has anyone eaten peanuts in the shell lately and noticed the shells are very brittle, almost crispy, and it's not uncommon to find one of the two chambers contains no peanut at all, even though the shell is completely intact? Or the peanut inside is extremely small and skinny and not at all in proportion to the size of the shell?

Wondering if there were issues with the US peanut crop recently that resulted in this. Inquiring minds want to know...

Well, baseball season wrapped up not too long ago, and I just can't go to a game without peanuts (...and I bring my own, so I don't have to pay exorbitant stadium prices!) This is all to say that I've had peanuts in the shell recently (as of Sep/Oct), and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. No noticeably more brittle shells, and no more than the usual amount of odd sizes/empties.

.....now I want some peanuts!

I get 5 lb. bags of Hampton Farms (unsalted) in the shell at Sam's. It's common to find a few, as you describe, but nothing above the level I've seen over the years. To be expected with agricultural products that aren't peeled or otherwise opened to expose the fruit.

I'm buying the regular Hampton Farms salted peanuts in the green bag. But I recently had to resort to the Safeway house brand of salted peanuts in the shell and they were the same way. So weird. Maybe we got a bad batch of them out here on the West Coast.

Sometimes I get 3 peanuts in the shell. Sometimes 1 skinny one.

The shells are salted. That probably drys them out.

I guess I am the fanatic regarding in-the shell, because I have tried numerous brands that are available locally to me & its always hit & miss. I did try some Hoody’s via Amazon & they were a cut above. I keep stating they need to be a very light white in color, meaning freshness as opposed to the dark colored ones.

I buy that same bag of peanuts here on a pretty regular basis and haven't encountered more than the occasional bad one which is normal. I haven't opened the latest bag yet so that may change.

I really like the Roasted Virginia Peanuts (no shell) from Nuts dot com. Get the big 5 pounder.

Haven't had any in shell lately, but will sometimes eat them. Just head over to Five Guys and grab fistfuls. :)

Haven't had any in a while now, but you've got me wanting to head to the store in the morning, Mr. Allingham.

I've bought those bags of peanuts (and some in an A's bag, too ;) ) but no, these were not MLB labeled. I've been eating them while watching football games on TV. Good protein, good fat.

The problem I have with these is the peanut itself is a very dark color, meaning they aren't fresh. It's all about timing, meaning when were they harvested vs. the expiration date on the package.
Local businesses near me sell Hampton Farms peanuts as a fundraiser for youth sports. The guy who runs the fundraiser says the peanuts he supplies have only been out of the ground for two weeks.

I get them here. They have a store in Gloucester Va, that I visit when I head South to visit the folks. They're the best shell in peanuts that I've ever had. The brittles and crunches are very good too. The Country Dill Pickle, Thai Sweet Chili & the Sweet & Savory BBQ seasoned peanutes are really good. I don't know how much they charge to ship.

I bought 5 lb bags of salted and unsalted Hampton Farms from Amazon 3 months ago and my experience is as you describe; some have no or very small peanuts after cracking the shell open (thought I haven't paid attention to the feel of the shell).
