First Time Tri-Tip

For the first time found a piece of Tri-Tip at my local Costco. It was in a pre-marinated bag which I didn't care for, but I'd never seen it before and had to try it. Seared it over the vortex and then off to indirect with a chunk of hickory and oak on the grate. I think I over cooked it by about 5 degrees and it was a tad salty, but all in all really good. Really wish I could just get a plain Tri-Tip next time though.

Washed it down with a homebrewed all citra hopped pale ale.

Your Tri-Tip looks great!

I can't imagine not being able to buy plain old TTs. They are everywhere around here.

You TT looks great. Is there a Costco near you? Costco sell TT

Our costco has never had a normal one in the case with the rest of the meat. Every now and then you might see the one I cooked here in this post. I have never seen or heard of a tri-tip until I joined this board.

Andy, I'm on a low sodium diet so I never buy anything pre marinated because of the sodium issue. Don't know where you live but TTs are pretty much a west coast thing. When we lived in California almost every store carried them. Even here in Arizona Costco always has them but the local markets even the big chains don't have them very often.
Although for your first shot at one I think you did fine.

Have you tried talking to a local butcher shop? I would think they could get them for you. If not, check out Snake River Farms on the web. They are pricey, but they will ship them to you. Also, have you tried talking the the Costco butchers? They might be able to help. Good luck.

I love food!
I don't deny myself salt but, the super high saltiness in almost every one of the pre marinatedhas put me completely off them.
