First Cook on the CL SJS Banh Mi

I found this SJS on CL for $8, It had never been used but had a couple of dings in the lip of the lid. Looks like the guy used it to defend himself or something. Anyway, cleaned it up, fixed the dings and touched up the paint. I also replaced all 4 screws, wing nuts and washers with stainless hardware.

New to me SJS.

Pretty clean.

The marinade, the spice in the front is garam masala and the green stuff is fresh lemongrass from our garden.

Marinaded the pork for 2 nights.

Time to get a mini chimney.

On the SJS.

Putting it together. I made some pickled daikon, onions and carrots and added jalepenos, cilantro and srirachi mayo to complete it.

Plated.

This was a very tasty sandwich and I have enough fixings for a few more. The best thing was that all this came together for $15, and that included the grill.
Thanks for looking.

The grill looks like new. Your repairs were very good and the cook looks like it tasted great. Congrats.

Pat G;
GOOD work! That's the way to go. Great lookin' "sammich", for sure!

I often use my Jumbo Joe in similar ways. I got it from a "end of season" close out at Target ($30.00). I have been EXTREMELY happy with it.

Keep on smokin',

Banh Mi looks great Pat! That's one steal of a deal on that SJS, never would know from the pics that you got it second hand.

Ah yes...the Banh Mi...it has always been a favorite of mine. Seeing as most of the Vietnamese sandwiches I typically enjoy are usually stuffed with mystery meat of indeterminate origin, I would definitely feel better about eating one of yours, Pat! Good stuff!

Tasty looking Bahn Mi.

All of my SMJ's have come off CL. All for $5 and with briquettes! One even came with a charcoal starter chimney. As mentioned above get yourself a 32 qt. tamale pot and make a Mini-WSM.
