Yes, this is my old kettle (1978) it has the daisy wheel vents and I did go up through the bottom of one. I ran about 450 degrees at first, which was perfect for browning the Turkey and Onions, and when it came time to add the rest, I maintained about 350 by closing all the vents half way. That's two tray full of charcoalI noticed you had a heat probe on the grill, did you bring the wire up through the bottom vent? i have the Maverick 733 coming and plan to use with Kettle so was wondering about setup and managing the wires
I got the grate as a second thought the day after Christmas. I've been wanting the Claycort grate (sp?) and I missed the sale (25% starting black Friday thru 12/01) I knew the stock grate might sag or worse under the weight of the CI/DO so I picked this one up from Home Depot for $35. I may or may not get the CI insert for the center, I'm think the CI WOK, might be better for thereHow do like that grate? I got the same one because I was doing Chili in CI dutch oven the original grate was sagging because of the combined weigh of the Chile and CI, that grate is heavier gauge
think the CI WOK, might be better for there![]()
