Do you rinse your chicken?

I do. Carefully. Lots of questionable stuff comes out of the cavity of Costco chickens.

Recently I hear it's a no no but the proponents seem like the same people that would have thought Prohibition was a good idea. I'm also sure they're allergic to gluten without truly knowing what it is (Like me with pectin. Not allergic, I just don't like the name).

Anyway, I rinse chicken.
 
I never wash a chicken. But then again I usually cut the backkbone out, cut it in half down the breast bone and brine it so I guess it does get washed.
 
While in college I took a few meat science for my major. Washing meat of any type was always a no-no. We used towels to pat dry chickens and turkeys that we would break down or prep. for the smoke house. Since there was a laundry service for the towels and aponons and such it made sense. I don't have that luxury now so I use paper towels to dry chicken. Is it a big deal to wash chickens, probably not if you wash with low water pressure and sanitize afterwards.
 
I used to, but no longer. Too messy, too much trouble, and why risk splashing salmonella all over the sink, counter, faucet, soap dispenser, my shirt, etc.

Here is an article about this subject. The article states that 44% of people wash their chicken. I'd say that if this article was read by those 44%'s 4 out of 5 will continue to wash their chicken. Sometimes it is difficult to change people's minds.

Bacteria from the splash from washing can travel up to 3 feet. Anything in that range can end up being contaminated.

What the heck is your salad doing on the counter while you're prepping a chicken?

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. If I open the pack and it's full of slimy, bloody water, you bet I rinse it. If it is relatively pristine to begin with, I just pat dry with paper towel.

I'm in the Jeff camp, but that's usually only with whole birds. Pieces, I'll pat down with a paper towel.

What about brining? I rinse everything I brine.
 
It depends on whether I use soap or not. :rolleyes:

I'll rinse out the bags on whole chickens and the Styrofoam trays on pieces because I don't want my recycling bin smelling like you know what.:)
Low pressure and a good wash down with hot soapy water in the sink.

I wash the chicken before I cook it. Lately they have more crud on them so I will continue to wash the crud off first.
I alway pat dry with paper towels and wash my hands thoroughly after handling raw meats.
 
I wash, trim the extra fat, season, and cook. I read that report when it came out, but old habits die hard and I have yet to make someone sick. Might make me feel a little ill if I didn't do it that way...
 
Sorry,I was taught to rinse the chicken in cook school. Not a pressure wash type of thing,but a gentle stream of water to rinse off any blood and loose bits. Then,pat dry with a paper towel and season and cook. It just makes sense to me.
