Delivery Mistake?

Anyone ever have FedEx (specifically) or any other, deliver a package that is supposed to have an adult signature at delivery send you a message saying it was signed for and delivered but not delivered?! Just happened to me this PM, no sign of it. I am wondering if a driver can have the wrong thing pull up on their tablet, not even pay attention, have someone sign in the wrong tab for the right package and the driver go on their merry way? This one has me REALLY concerned
 
LM, I've had numerous packages over the last few months that I get a "delivered" notification a day or two before the package ACTUALLY gets delivered. I'm just guessing, but in these instances, it's possible the driver is showing items as delivered so he/she doesn't get dinged for not delivering that day (I've talked to my UPS and FedEx regulars, and they have all said that they are doing daily delivery totals that are what they usually do in a normal Christmas period......). I don't know if I'm right or not, but it's a guess.

I haven't had this happen specifically with adult signature items, but I've had plenty of items that need 21+ signature just get left on my porch, noted in the system as "signed". Again, I suspect that part of it is the volume of deliveries, and perhaps some of it is the drivers just not wanting to have even the close contact of handing their PDA over for signature. Dunno.

Fortunately, my front porch is covered in such a way that items left there aren't easily visible to porch pirates (and, of course, I'm always here anyway.)

Not sure that helped at all, but it did give me something to do while I ate my lunch! :)

It just has me pretty nervous as it's not the kind of thing that should fall into the wrong hands. It's really got me worried.

Yeah, I understand. I'm sure you've tried contacting FedEx (or the party you ordered from) already. There's a reason these packages require a VERIFIED over 21 signature (be it alcohol, prescriptions, or other items), and I'd want to report it to FedEx and the original source even if it ultimately shows up.

The signature requirement is turning into more and more of a problem, with the pressure on the drivers to make the rounds. In short, they're not about to wait for someone to answer the door, and then wait longer for 12 year old Katie to get a responsible adult, "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm just the baby sitter, I can't sign that." More and more cases are getting documented about falsified signatures.

Personally, I've never received a delivery notification before a delivery, and usually pretty promptly after a delivery is made. With WfH, I make it a point to get everything off the front stoop & out of the mailbox as soon as I can.

Just for the record, I utterly despise porch pirates.
 
Well I got a call a short time ago from the person who had to receive this item for me. Turns out he was in the shop and the delivery guy didn't wait, went to the next delivery up the road knowing he had to come back the same way and simply dropped it with the guy a bit later. Turns out the false signature was generated by the driver's GPS locator. Anyway all ended well
 
I had a neighbor who tried to steal a laptop by telling the fedex person that he was authorized to accept the package for me, the idiot misspelt my name.
 
Come on, be realistic, the days of a “known” delivery person aside from your mailman (first name basis with mine) are over! Digital, no contact, socially distant delivery is a current reality. Amazon, FedEx, UPS, USPS, are all drop and dash!
If you want accurate responsible delivery, I still say Registered Mail, has the best track record.

Live with it, buy locally or, drive to get it yourself.

I was house sitting for a buddy on vacation, when a Fedex van pulled up when I was getting out of my truck.
She asked where is 2392? I said right here, and signed for the package...I could have signed any name I wanted and not even
know the people that lived at this address...
 
I work for a small warehouse that sells automotive and electrical equipment online. We were told once covid hit that FedEx was not doing signatures anymore. However, this was back in march when it first hit. And my sister in law just got two robot vacuums from amazon that she didn't even buy!

Not here. When I get FedEx it's nearly always the same lady at my door. I don't know her name but we always exchange pleasantries when we see each other in the "hood". Same with mail person. UPS I don't see often enough to know. When the delivery was finally made yesterday he did have to physically sign for it. It was because the delivery person knew my guy pretty well and knew he was out back in the shop and could simply circle back. May be different over there in MI but here (at least in the rural/semi-rural) areas. So there is still a certain level of "knowing each other" on sight. Heck I have even had my FedEx lady see me out walking the hood and stop to say hi and such.
 
When I was at a storefront, I did get to know the delivery people quite well, now since it’s just home delivery, the guys on this route are not “set” I seem to get six or more different people, one guy is really good at putting things at the back door, the rest sort of “aim for the front” and run those are usually Amazon people, almost never knock one did yesterday and I just about wet my pants!

Side story about a recent delivery mistake: My daughter wanted a "gaming computer" for Christmas, we ordered it, but were shipped two and only charged for one. After realizing they hadn't charged us (and probably weren't going to do so), I called them and told them about their mistake. The guy on the phone said I was a better person than him, yada-yada, and that it happens more than he cared to admit - even on their $4,000 to $5,000 machines! They sent me a prepaid FedEx label and I sent it back to them yesterday.
 
This is from probably 15 years ago...... I'd driven my Heep from Chicago back to the farm where I grew up for the Christmas Holidays to do some suspension work. I discovered after disassembling the whole front end that what I had intended was just not going to work. Got on the phone, ordered about 50 lbs of steel parts for overnight delivery from SoCal to MI. The UPS driver recognized my name on the label, and I hadn't seen him in 10+ years. He was a GREAT driver.
