Cold Blast 1, 2, and 3


 
Looks like a chilly few weeks coming up - at least here in the eastern half of the US. This time of year makes me really wish I had a patio heater. But if I had that, I'd probably have a $50 a week propane addiction too.

They closed Chicago area schools today because of the cold, but its 2 above and not as cold as they thought.
Lucky kids got a free day.
 
don't blame ya Bob... we're whippin' up some pulled pork pasta INDOORS... it's minus 4ºF right now and the flags are whippin' fast than we are...

correction: Pulled Pork RICE :p

Got home too late to grill today. Same thing tomorrow.
It was a balmy 34* in Hickory today,with a wind chill of 23*. Tomorrow I get to go up into the mountains of NC. Highs in the low 20s,with a wind chill of single digits. It's a good thing my Yankee blood hasn't totally thinned out from 20 years in NC!
 
I was gonna do grilled pork chops as well but single digit wind chill changed that plan to chicken fried steak... Indoors.
 
Well,I charged it. It wasn't too bad. Beat my hands down thou. -14 wind chill. I duct in to my front porch for a wind block. Used the mini for some quick Twice Baked Potatoes and Sirloin Burgers stuff with Red Onion,Green Peppers and home Apple Smoked,Shredded, Gouda Cheese. She ran for about 2hrs between 375-400 degrees with a steal defuser plate. After I lfted the lid two put the taters back in. It dropped to 275ish and hoovered there for another hr. Pretty much ate all the lump to hold that. No plated or action shots. My hands were trashed.

And that's 6.7 degrees not 67

I have family that live on lake Hickory. Beautiful area of the country.
 
Smoking a lean beef roast today for sammies next week. Dang near froze my petunia off in the 60* weather getting the mini going, but I was in the sun so it wasn't to bad:p
 
I took the week off ( might go in tomorrow ) I'm working right off the lake by Navy Pier. The hawk is a blow-in downtown and all I have is outside work.

I will agree that it is cold here. 71 degrees in my office and a chilly 69 degrees outside. Really don't want to go out when it is this chilly. Oh wait, I live in Los Angeles. Gentlemen, you do have my sympathy. Still shorts and teeshirt weather here. :cool:
