Chuck Eyes and a charcoal burn off test

R.I.P. 3/31/2022
I decided to do a little (unscientific) burn test between Trader Joes (Rancher) and Kingsford Competition.
Both were whole, with just an edge started.
K on the left, TJ on the right.

A little of the K has already fallen off after about 15 min.

After 1/2 hr.

After 1 hr 35 min. the TJ still has some body and heat left, while the K is pretty much kaput.

Next time I want to compare TJ to Stubb's.

All that testing made me thirsty, so let's get the cook started with a Bloody Caesar.

4 chuck eyes ready for salt.

Spuds done, steaks indirect for a reverse sear later.

A little side salad.

Butter and juice from the rested steak's plate on the potato.

Everything tasted great on a chilly evening here near the Lou.

Woo Hoo! Spring forward the clocks next week-end folks!

Wow. Nice crisp pics. Thanks for the test results. I'm anxious to see the Stubbs comparison.

Bob Correll the Science Guy. Cool test, I always though K-Comp burned fast. Great looking meal and I can't believe spring is almost here!

spring?? BS, not with 6 more inches of snow showing up tomorrow.

Bob, got chuck eyes for tonight, not as nice as those you got photo'ed...
and that side salad is a killer!

Thanks everyone!

Jim, now I feel bad, we're only supposed to get 1 to 2 tomorrow.
well, not that bad :p

Check out the marbling on these babies, I bet they were tender.
Bill,
My wife got out a steak knife for hers, and I told her it hurt my feelings, a fork will do.
well, maybe not that tender.:)

Those are some beautiful chuck eyes, Bob! Perfectly cooked. They had some at our local store but they didn't look nearly that good. The whole meal looks delicious!

Wish I had a couple of those bloody caesars!!

Thanks for the charcoal comparison. Interesting. Super pics as always!

Bob, your chuck eyes and all look like you did a fantastic job!

Also, thanks for the charcoal comparison. While K Comp is usually much better than regular Kbb, I'm really not that all surprised. I used Rancher briqs several years ago when Home Depot carried it, and it was my favorite.

Totally excellent cook and photos Bob! I like Kingsford Comp and regular Kingsford, BUT I have found that Stubbs seems to last alot longer
and I need less to get to where I need to be temp wise. I haven't found any Rancher down here.

Great chuckies Bob...I'm home sick today but man I'd chow that down!

Great cook!!!hopefully the snow doesn't materialize!

I'm waiting for the Stubbs comparison. I have use a coupke bags lately and to me it seems to burn cleaner and longer than the Kingsford.

Great looking cook.
