The use the setup shown in this article. I start the chimney on the charcoal grate, inside the charcoal chamber, in the charcoal bowl as shown in the first photo.

When the charcoal is hot, I move the chimney briefly to the oil pan, fill the ring with charcoal, and pour the hot coals on top.

How are you lighting the charcoal above with no flame source present?

Like others I use the gas starter on my performer putting the chimney on the charcoal grate until it's ready.

Same here in which the Large Weber Chimney filled to the brim lights up in around 20 minutes with very little physical effort.

I start my chimney the way a Chris shows earlier in this thread except I load the charcoal first. Then I just set my chimney right on the unlit charcoal. I use a Weber starter cube, set right on the unlit charcoal, set my chimney on top of that and then when the chimney charcoal is lit, I pour it out and assemble the WSM.
