Wow, what a busy weekend, no time to play much. I did do another WSM Pizza Kettle cook, this time six pizzas, but I was using my phone to play Pandora and I didn't get any photos. I still swear by using the WSM to cook pizza, but over wood, not charcoal we had lots of company and everyone wants to buy a WSM & Kettle Pizza. I hope I get a commission :o

So finally got a chance to relax, made some Carne Asada. I was gone for 10 weeks and the kids used my Comal, and it was glazed black, 1/4" thick  I managed to get it cleaned up like always, it made some killer eats

Can't wait to get to work tomorrow, so I can goof off looking what everybody cooked this Weekend. I expect Cliff to be in a good mood, 49ers pulled one out in OT

Really looks good, Chuck. If I didn't know better, I'd say you've been cooking with that comal since you learned to walk.

PS: You can play Pandora and take pictures at the same time. ;)

I was wondering how long it would take for you to bust that baby out. I've got the Kettle Que and it discolors like the comal. I wish I could get it as clean as you and Tony do. I've tried the de-glazing and spatula thing but even though super clean, still has that grimy look. Anyway, great looking cook. Good to see you and the comal back in action.

Oh yeah, the Niners deserved that one yesterday after that loss last week.

I'm not sure about the Kettle Que, but the Comal is Stainless Steel. I take a knife to, needs to be sharp, at about 25 degree angle and just go over the Comal until the glaze is gone. Doesn't hurt the Comal at all. It took the better part of an hour to get it deglazed using the knife. I wouldn't suggest using the knife your bride bought ya :)

Nice cook. but what do you do for cleanup of the comal? as big as that thing is you must have to go to the truck/car wash to clean it.

I posted this before reading the previous post about cleaning but I presume you just do the cleaning in the yard with a garden hose. I mean it certainly wont fit in the kitchen sink.

The secret to it: Once everything is cooked, put it in a bowl and let the Comal get hot. Shake water out of a cup onto it, and scrape with a metal spatula. Once you've got the glaze off, wash it with one of those sponges that have the pad on one side. Give it a light coat of oil and call it good. My kids trashed it while I was gone, I had to scrape it for about an hour to get it back right.

Thanks Enrico! My bride took the plated photo. She said "you're fired" when it comes to plated pictures :)

Man I gotta get me one of those - I keep seeing great grub made on the Comal. Excellent looking meal Chuck...

Regards,

John

where's your cook? wasn't your kid cooking for ya last summer?
Funny you should ask. My wife said "hey you guys want to drag out the Comal and cook up some Carne Asada. My son & I love tacos, so I was all over it, but oddly enough my son was pretty quite on the subject and as the cook time drew near he took off. That's when I found the Comal, glazed over 1/4" deep :(

They used it while I was gone, which I have no problem with, but they did a lousy job of cleaning it afterwards and then stashed it away for me to find. So...that's what happened to my help, LOL

Great looking meal Chuck. All of these comal cooks look so good, and you guys make it looks soooo easy! I'm really gonna have to try some carne asada.
Tim
