Bad timing, new charcoal with new cooker. I only got 14 hour burn time with ring level full. Tons of ash also. Maybe bad charcoal?

For me it sounds good lasting time. Using weber briqs I usually put 3 fully chimney in the ring and it goes on for your time

Very typical. The 18.5" wsm is the cooker that has earned such a reputation for cook times, not the 22". Pack charcoal tight and heap it up high, use as much boiling or hot water as convenient (or no water), and shelter the cooker from the wind. It has a big door, though, so adding with a shovel or something is easy. Lit charcoal goes in the center, but you'll want to add any unlit around the outside so it won't start smoking nasty. The big 22" wsm can burn a long time too, but the fire is much farther from the meat than with the 18".

Rather a loaded question, especially without knowing the following information / variables ...

What temperature did you run at.
Did you use the dome temperature gauge or one at grill level.
Did you use water in the pan.
How much meat did you cook.
How many lit coals did you start with.
Does 'ring level full' mean it was heaping full.
What if any wind did you have.

In addition to wind;

Was it raining/snowing?

What was the outside air temp?

Here's what we're getting at: http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/coldtemp.html

What Bob & Dwain said/asked... Lots of variables would could make this a great burn time. Otherwise, sounds fine.
