Bad timing, new charcoal with new cooker. I only got 14 hour burn time with ring level full. Tons of ash also. Maybe bad charcoal?

Rather a loaded question, especially without knowing the following information / variables ...
What temperature did you run at.
Did you use the dome temperature gauge or one at grill level.
Did you use water in the pan.
How much meat did you cook.
How many lit coals did you start with.
Does 'ring level full' mean it was heaping full.
What if any wind did you have.
