BroilMaster P3 Restore

That is an awesome deal. If that thermoset is the same as Weber, then just try bleach with a green scrubby or steel wool. Then a coating of a good vinyl protectant. If that doesn't bring it back, you can sand it and then coat it with the vinyl protectant. .... But I am assuming it is the same/similar to the Weber Thermoset.

Thanks. I'm a bit skeptical because no shots of the inside. I was thinking of getting it to replace our Spirit E-210 propane on the deck of our primary home...but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the Weber. I might pass on this BM.

Got started this evening. I don't plan on getting the box and lid spit shined...just get most of the carbon off and than I'll was it down well.

That could be an absolute steal for that. Doesn't show the insides but if it's anything close to outside shape grab that thing
I was going to but decided against it for now. I've got several projects on my plate, including the restoration of my current BM. The best time of year for surfing and staying at our beach house is fast approaching and the Weber E210 that I currently have is in excellent condition. Additionally, I have plenty of spare parts for the Weber such as burners, igniter and flavorizer bars. It would be years before I could even possibly regret not going after that $45 BM.

The thermometer on P3 the lid presents my first challenge. It's rusted on there so badly that the only way it's coming off is if I cut the small rusted nuts and studs off with my Dremel. I'll test it first with a lighter. If it works, I may just leave it and tape it off when I paint the lid. If not, I'll order a replacement. Can't find an original that has "Broilmaster" on it though.

The lid cleaned up adequately with a combination of Turtle Wax wheel and tire cleaner followed by professional grade carpet prespray and than a good blast from the hose. The grates look a bit better and I'll brush them once they cool. I might paint the lid today if there's no rain in the forecast. It's going to be gloss black.

I had to chop mine off and got this as a replacement. Works fine.

I saw that one. I decided to leave it on and tape it off. I'll test it. If it works..mgreat. If not, I found the stainless version of the one you got. In fact, you just motivated me to just buy it and have on hand...even if the existing one works

I got all my grills pretty much sold and about to start working on the house and fate would have another P3 drop from FBMP to my lap. How could I possibly pass up this P3 with full tank and SS rod grates for free? It has a really really heavy cast iron burner that I thought does not go in one of these. Not sure of what it will needs yet or if it needs a new burner.

Nice. I'm coming down the home stretch with mine. Firebox portion is done. You are right about the casters. They are difficult to remove. I'm going straight at them with a hacksaw blade in my Sawzall and multitool.
The closer I look at these casters, the more I'm convinced that there is no good way to remove and replace them. I can't drill out the screws because they just spin. I can't get to the nuts. Broilmaster rivets the entire stainless housing to the cart base and I'm not drilling out the stainless rivets. Looks like the casters get a good shot of oil and remain. They function fine. Goofy design though. I guess I could go after them with a cut-off wheel on my angle grinder...but why??

Mine did not spin. I was able to slide a wrench in behind them and actually get them off and working more or less. It was a pain for sure. Some day I may buy replacements but they were pricey at almost $30 + shipping I believe. Not the $8 weber pop in and out for sure.

I bought generic ones from Amazon. But the more I looked at
them the more I was convinced that getting them off wasn't necessary. They are rusty, but I soaked them with oil when I first got the grill. The rubber appears decent and they roll and swivel fine...and the brake works.
It's now ready to be transported to our beach house, reassembled and fired up. Hopefully the quick connect hose from the Weber connects readily to the gas line connection for the Broilmaster. I do believe that's a standardized fitting on the grill end.
I'll post some final pictures once I get it there and assembled.

I was able to revitalize that CI burner. I am so glad I did not have to buy a new one. OMG is this thing heavy! I scraped, wire brushed, drilled the clogged holes, and oiled it. It barley fits and did some damage to the igniter getting it aligned from underneath to the orifices but it all works! The new ceramic tiles should be here tomorrow and it will be listed for the weekend.
