Beer.

I've been on a quest the last couple of years to find Spaten Oktoberfest - nary a bottle in the San Diego area.

This year, my local Total Wines had a single case in their last shipment - wasn't even out on the shelves yet. I took 2 6 packs home.

It may be a wee bit early for celebrating, but I'm enjoying a bottle this afternoon...it tastes like...Fall. :)

I've got some New Glarus Limited Production Pilsner in the fridge. It is "da bomb". Tastes almost like sitting in the Kolsch Brau House in Cologne Germany. Really good stuff. But today I think I will be enjoying a wee bit of Scotch Single Malt Lowland variety
I’d reach for the Single Malt, too.

A good Friday afternoon, everyone!

We made a visit today to Embolden Brewing in the Miramar (aka 'beer-a-mar') area of San Diego.

Open air industrial tasting room, food trolley outside with pizza & sandwich selections, and inside a nice variety of beers.

We got a flight of 4 beers to try - all very good

Our favorites were the Broken Record and Brave the Hazy.

The margherita pizza was delicious!

Back in May, my g/f & I visited Thunder Bay, ON. Among other things, there were a few brewery visits.

These are the service tanks at Lakehead Beer in downtown Thunder Bay.

These tanks are insulated, glycol cooled, and pressurized for service. The lines to the taps are only a few feet long, leading to some of the best served beer you could ever hope to have. This is only about half of the beer on tap, the rest are a more traditional arrangement with much longer beer lines.

Yes, the beers were very good.

While in Pagosa Springs last week, we had dinner at Riff Raff Brewing on the Rio (the San Juan River). Patio seating was on the river, 2-man band called Highway 17 from Chama, New Mexico was playing, the beer was great, and the sun was setting. It was all totally unplanned- I saw the brewery sign from the road and we pulled in, but it felt like a perfect moment in time.
