Beer.

I've got some New Glarus Limited Production Pilsner in the fridge. It is "da bomb". Tastes almost like sitting in the Kolsch Brau House in Cologne Germany. Really good stuff. But today I think I will be enjoying a wee bit of Scotch Single Malt Lowland variety

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Last day of the long 4th of July weekend. Sunny, hot, got the smoker going for some pulled pork later(pics later)- and enjoying a tasty beer from Fort George Brewing, Astoria, Oregon.

3 Way IPA (collaboration brew from Brujos, Ghost Town and Ft George brewing)

Enjoy your day!

Happy Saturday, everyone! 🍻

Sunny and hot outside. I'm staying inside with the A/C on, cheesey sci-fi movies, and some cold refreshments.

Went to revisit Hopnonymous Brewing yesterday and came home with a growler of their Attitude Era Double IPA

Happy Sunday, everyone!

It is hot outside - braving the heat to do some watering and getting the grill prepped for some salmon later. Enjoying a Kook Slams Mosaic/West Coast IPA from Duck Foot Brewing. Crisp, clean, a nice citrus bite and tropical finish.

Greetings and Happy Friday, everyone! 🍻

Found a new local brewery thanks to a Groupon Coupon that popped up on my feed.

Ataraxia Aleworks
"A pleasure that comes when the mind is at rest"

Yeah, that describes the vibe of this brewery in the Kearny Mesa area. Industrial complex, casual, roll up back freight door, 90's music playing and not crowded for a Friday afternoon.

I haven't had one of those in about 40 years!
Genesee was my college beer at Stockton University in south Jersey. I am not the biggest beer drinker and had totally forgotten about it. About 20 years ago we had a standing monthly poker game I was hosting and asked what kind of beer I should buy, and one guy wanted some red stripe. I got some and tried one while waiting for them to show up. I kept thinking that this beer is so smooth and creamy and it reminded me of something. It finally came to me a few weeks later that it reminded me of Genesee and I picked up a 30 pack for about $12, compared to the 6 pack of Red Stripe 6 pack for about $8. I never looked back and am still buying it when I can find it. I could not even get it in Richmond until Wegmans opened a store and made the local distributer carry it since both Wegmans and Genesee corporate offices are in upstate NY. Really amazing how much power the food and beverage distributers have in what we can and can not get at the supermarket.

Almost 30 years ago I noticed I could not get Progresso Vegetable Italiano or VanderKamps frozen fish anymore and called the companies. They said they were still made but no distributers carried it within 200 miles of me and there is nothing they can do.

I like Double Dog, brewed in Frederick, Maryland by Flying Dog Brewery. Their strategy was, let's just double everything! Double barley, double malt, double hops, double alcohol which puts it at 12%.

I figure, if you're gonna drink a beer, why fool around? Double Dog also won the Best Beer contest for the Chesapeake region back in 2013. I'll usually drink one of these. One and done! Takes me between 60 and 90 mins to finish.

Probably a pay wall, sorry.

My second favorite beer is Resin, brewed in Brooklyn, NY by Sixpoint Brewery. Another IIPA, 9.1% ABV. I'll often have this after the Double Dog. Another 60-90 minutes.

I lived in Frederick for three years while I was stationed at Fort Detrick. It was like being on vacation for three years.
