From the Miami Herald:

"The first legal exports from Cuba to the U.S. in more than 50 years arrived at Port Everglades Tuesday. The shipment is small, just two containers of artisanal charcoal, but the importer hopes it will be the harbinger of more trade to come.

"Two containers of artisanal charcoal made from Cuban Marabú, an invasive woody species from Africa that is considered a nuisance on the island, arrived at the Fort Lauderdale port..."

I wonder how far distribution will go, and how it will sell. It would be interesting to try a bag of this.

Makes me wonder if charcoal can be made from invasive Asian honeysuckle, it's everywhere around here.
Doubt it since it's not very dense.

I hope this isn't political but: what with your new "buy america" mantra and possible exorbitant tariffs on imports (keeping in mind you do make your own charcoal/briqs in Michigan--Kingsford anyways), I wonder how long those cuban imports are going to last?
 
No Cuban here in southwest Colorado, but do have a bag on the way.
As a true lump-aholic head I couldn't pass this one up. Hope that it burns & smells as good as JD lump.
Review will be in the near future.
Enjoy chillin' & grillin' in the wintertime.
