BBQ 3001 ribs.

Every week I scan the local grocery ads for deals on meat I can grill or smoke. This week I noticed bb ribs on sale for $2.99 a lb. So I headed on down to the store yesterday with the intentions of buying bb ribs when I noticed they were "enhanced". I'm not against smoking pumped ribs but I prefer natural. I keep scanning the meat case and find SL cut ribs for the same price so I went with those.

I seasoned the ribs with Penzey's BBQ 3001.

On to the WSM for three hours with peach wood and KBB.

After 3 hours they looked like this. I then wrapped them in foil with some apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and thinned BBQ sauce.

While the ribs continued to cook I marinaded some gus in EVOO, and Penzy's 4s and balsamic vinegar. I grilled the gus on the genesis.

Ribs cooked in foil for 1.5 hrs. Then removed and back on for 25 minutes with bbq sauce.

I like the BBQ 3001 rub it has a good overall flavor. Ribs were tender and delicious. Thanks for looking.

Wonderful result !
Great pics !
Good decision on going with the natural product.

Safeway has pork loin back ribs on sale this week with the newspaper coupon for $2.49 lb

Very nice Jason, great looking cook! I use a lot of Penzeys spices, we go down to the store in Phoenix it's a trip just to walk around and look at and smell all the good stuff they have.

Love the color of those ribs! I used to grab whatever St. Louis spares the grocery store had, but after seeing a great result with natural ribs followed by a subpar result with injected, I now steer clear of the injected ribs too. Since Arkansas seems to be one of the few states without a Penzey's, it looks like I have some online shopping to do ... and will have to miss the aromas of the in-store experience.

Jason - nice job on those spares. I have been doing BBs lately - I think I will do a run on spares soon. Grilled asparagus is one of my favorite things to cook (and eat). Thanks for the inspiration...

Regards,

John

Ribs look great. Beautiful color and nice pullback.

I sure wish the Kroger and Tyson meat people would figure out that pork enhancement doesn't do it. I have to get my ribs or butts at a smaller store when on sale, or go to a wholesaler, SAMs, or Costco. It's ridiculous.

While the ribs look awesome (and I'd buy them too) that label creeps me out.

ALL NATURAL TASTE!
NATURAL CHOICE (R)
100% NATURAL ** (No artificial ingredients)

I'd imagine if they were pumped they'd have to disclose the % of brine...But that's some sketchy branding!

Not trolling at all - This is an awesome cook that I wish I could do. Looks great!
