Are pork prices heading down?


 
It sure makes pork barbecue a lot more economical. I wish beef prices would go down. In the meantime, I'm cooking some pork!
 
Randy do you know if that was pork from nearby sources? Dowagiac is a pork producing area (blowing the Michigan pork trumpet) of some size.
 
Pork always seems to come down in the nov dec jan period. Every year. Maybe culling season going into winter?

I suspect that is at least PART of the picture.
Plus, I would bet that A LOT of hogs get bought-up at this time of the year in order to have all of those Christmas Hams ready in time. One would think that higher demand = higher prices, but maybe the competition to sell drives prices down a bit, or pork producers time their herds for this thereby increasing supply...
 
One thing I DO know, when prices are down, it is time to stock up the freezer! I just smoked two butts for pulled pork and will be doing a couple of more in a few days. Vacuum packing the pulled pork before freezing "is your friend"...
