A Chicken Skewer - Flowerpot Tandoor Oven

Built a Tandoor oven out of flower pots. It's meant to cook skewers hot and fast and to bake Naan bread.

Used 3 pots. 1x15" 1x10" 1x8.5"
Filled with vermiculite to use as insulation for the pot. It's not flammable and it has high heat retention.

Cut off bottom and used it as a lid.

1st test I put 4 good size lump charcoal and let the pot pre-heat for 1 hour.

About 4-5 min. The I.T was 165. Crispy exterior, juicy inside.

It is pretty fuel efficient.
Temp after 3 hours 800F
4 hours = 600
5 hours = 300

Need to try this out with Tandoori Chicken, apparently the high heat brings out the flavour of the Greek yogurt.

Super bug out smoker. Well done. I did the Alton Brown one like 10yrs. Was that temp the charcoal or the pot? That thing would be super fun to cut up little pieces of good eats and play around with by the camp fire. Like thin cut steak wrapped in a dough ball or something

Temp was mid section of the pot. Charcoal was over 1000+. Couldn't tell exactly. It maxes out at 1024.
