Grilling an 18 pound Turkey on the kettle (?'s)

(Hanging head in shame !) I cooked it in the oven. Long story short, wife got all nervous with her mom, and her brothers family coming over, so we cooked it in the oven. Didn't do anything fancy, seperated the skin/meat, butter under breast skin, lots of salt, garlic/onion powder, and 5...

Grilling an 18 pound Turkey on the kettle (?'s)

We had an 18 pound Turkey taking up space in the freezer, and the wife knowing I like to cook things over fire, suggested I grill it this weekend. I have it defrosting in the fridge since Monday. I have never grilled a whole Turkey, and was looking for any and all suggestions. I think I...

what would your ideal grill be ( charcoal of course ) mine?

A 30 inch (cause my 26 is still too small)Platinum, with a side burner (to light the chimney). About 6 inches higher (taller) than the current Performer. It would come standard with CI grates and a rotisserie. And a lifetime supply of Wicked Good....All for $200

    Weber side basket problems

The basket on the right side is only over one vent opening, the one on the left is over 2 vent openings, thus it gets more air.

Friends party moved to Monday at 1 pm: My butts ready now !

Due to the weather, my friends party that was scheduled for Sunday at 3 pm, was moved to Monday at 1 pm. It is now 10:15 Sunday morning, and my 4 butts are about done. Was going to wrap them, let them rest for 2-3 hours, then fridge them whole. Tomorow, I will put the four butts (still...

Weber 26 inch kettle (size compare to my 22)

Most of the time, it's just me, my wife, and my 7 year old, though I prefer to cook extra for leftovers. Also, I prefer to cook "indirect" with a basket of charcoal on either side. With the 22, I was constantly fighting for space. I just got off the phone with Weber customer service, these...

    What's Your Indirect Set-up?

2 baskets on each side, cook in the middle. Want a 26er for more indirect space. edit to say: Used to use a foil pan for a drip pan, now I just use a piece of HD foil.

    Fresh Ham vs Pork Butt

I believe both Tony Luke's and Johnny's Italian Roast Pork (?) used a ham on that show. Sure made me hungry.

    My "new" charcoal starter

I am trying to think of how to work with the angle of the torch tip, and keeping the tank away from the heat/coals. Maybe keep the tank to the side, propped up at angle to the chimney. I would like to cook the coals longer then just lighting them. (in some instances) That, or I'll just keep...
