You know you're getting old when...

John, hope this is a day late "joke".
Joan, you know you’re getting old when you want to post a meme in the humor thread but put it in the you know you’re getting old thread by mistake, lol

John who and what joke and why?

Timothy- Joan was too quick for me. I deleted my post before I could see her reply.

OK, Senior moment, got it!

...when you re-do something that you did decades ago, when the younger you must have run out of time, money, ambition, or proper prior planning. I had plumbed in a laundry sink eons ago and i must have run out of something because the shut-off valves were installed in an awkward position relative to the sink basin, requiring me to crawl under the sink to reach them. I'm too old for this! WTH was I thinking back then?

This is why I’m having my plumber come and replace the one that was installed when this place was almost built, the fiberglass sink looks like it’s from the ‘50’s, no shut off valves at all! They have all been put in as each repair has been done by us! Now everything has them!
I no longer have the tools, desire or flexibility to crawl under those places, and that’s a pretty good thing to realize before I do something stupid and hurt myself!
Even my plumber has a “monkey” to carry heavier stuff and do the dirtiest stuff.

Good call - fixing (or trying to fix) old plumbing usually winds up involving something not planned for....

When watching TV, and one of those Fidelity or Edward Jones Wealth management commercials come on - you know the ones where one second they are speaking to a client in the office, and the next shot is the beautiful family on horseback traversing their ranch in Montana, or walking out into a backyard vineyard - stating this is what you worked and planned for in retirement....

I think they should do a new one - with my wife and I in meeting with a planner - with the next shot being me calling a plumber to fix something with confidence, stating this is what I've worked for my entire life!

Good call on not crawling under sinks.

A number of years ago, I crawled under the kitchen sink to replace a sprayer diverter valve. Was on my back and when I slid out I felt something pop. There was some pain, but nothing serious. The next morning, I hurt so bad that I couldn't get out of bed. Even with a high tolerance for pain, I just couldn't do it. Finally, Miriam called an ambulance. They gave me a shot of something before loading me onto the gurney and taking me to the ER. Turned out that I had broken the lowest rib in my back. I've had broken ribs before, but the pain was never even close to this time.

No more crawling under sinks for me any more.
