WSM 18 again

In 2010 I received an 18" WSM for Father's Day. I cooked on that thing for thirteen years. Then I got the idea that I wanted to try a pellet smoker so I sold my WSM a couple of years ago. I have made some really dumb decisions in my life and I count that as one of them. I had been watching Market Place for a good used one but the right one just didn't come along. Until yesterday.
NIB (unopened and unregistered) WSM 18 for $300. Lady bought it at HD clearanced at $337 for her husband.

But he wanted the WSM 22. So, BOOM! Sold to me for $300 and no tax. This was the deal I had been waiting for. Now my mistake has been corrected. It's time to start posting cooks again.

The black bullet is back!

Glad you found a good deal. If you'd like to tell, I am interested why you moved away from the pellet smoker. Was it the results, the process...?

Well Jonas, that's hard for me to quantify because I really had not one bad experience with my SmokeFire EX4. It fired up every time I used it, without fail. I have nothing negative to say about my experience with it. I think the biggest thing is I just enjoy the process of tending the charcoal grill. My kettle gets used a lot. I will say this, some of the best food I have ever prepared has come from the WSM and I want to get back to that.

I’m also heading back to my WSM. Bought it in 2009, and while it’s showing its age, it’s still rock solid.

Over the years I’ve run through a bunch of smokers and grills—Performer, WSCG (now Summit Kamado), Smokeshack Elite (electric), a few kettles. But no matter what I try, the WSM is always the one I come back to.

I’ve got the SNS Kettle now, but honestly, I wish I’d kept my Performer (gave it to my brother). The SNS just isn’t Weber quality. The actual SnS works, but the temp gradient across the grate, especially near the SnS, makes things less consistent. The results just aren’t as good as the WSM.

I’ve thought about grabbing a pellet smoker just to try something new, and new is fun, but if I want easy, I’ll just use the Smokeshack.

Been around the block, and the WSM still wins.

I've done the same thing. Started on a kettle >Brinkmann gourmet bullet >Lang offset > WSM > Humphrey vertical insulated > WSM > 1904 offset > Weber Kettle > now considering a WSM or WSK, performer or 26"kettle. For the money, the WSM held its own and even bettered more expensive cookers.
