Just got to noticing that all WSMs are referred to as 14.5" , 18.5", or 22.5", are there other cookers that are 14.75", 18.25", etc?, I'm gotta call mine a WSM18 and leave it at that and I'll bet folks will know which one it is(save key strokes, they may be endangered some day).........;);)

You Sir, can call it whatever you want.:)
I'm a Carpenter, and most of us call them what they are and IMO deserve, because they are one of a kind!

In land surveying the foot measure (12 inches) is used, but divided it into 10ths and 100ths of a foot.
(unless it's a govm't job and metric is used)
One time a contractor was describing to his son how to read surveyor's measurements and said:
"Son, they use those big inches."

OT, but I still find it funny.

Back to the opening post,J E ,a lot of members here have multiple cookers. Not just WSM's,but kettles also. So I think they are just trying to give as much details of the cook as possible.

I find myself wanting to call mine the WSM 18 and my grill the weber 22....am I mentally lazy? Probably. But I do love those cookers and they know it.

you could go metric like in Europe - the WSMs are 37, 47 and 57cm...(although some of us still prefer inches!)

Point would still be the same as Kettles are 18.5, 22.5, etc. Saying WSM18 is enough to tell everyone exactly what is being used. The ".X" would be understood for all WSMs and Kettles so there's no real need to type it each time.

I think we are saving a lot of key strokes by not calling them Weber Smokey Mountain.
