Weber Genesis E310 vs II S345 is it worth upgrading?

Yah, the front burners are great for hot and fast but if you like to do roti cooking then side to side or east west burners are the way to go. You can still do roti cooking with the front burner grills but results may vary. It sounds like you have a good arsenal for outdoor cooking. The underside of your lid doesn't look too bad. If you have access to a sandblaster then that would really clean up the firebox and lid. If not then scraping the lid with a razor and some oven cleaner and elbow grease for the cookbox should do the trick. I think if you change the regulator, clean up the burners (or get new ones), get some SS bars and grates (recommend RC's hardware) or even getting grillgrates then your grill will cook like new again (or even better).
What is RC hardware? I have been looking at Qulimetal on amazon they seem to have good reviews on everything.

RCPlanebuyer aka Dave Santana. He makes the best grates and flavorizer bars. RC is his eBay handle. You can get a better price going through his Craigslist ad.

I recently restored a Genesis 1000 and used his stuff. Top notch.
I will check him out. Thank you sir! I did go look around yesterday and love the look of the new grills and love the new warmer rack how it works just not sure its worth the coin to upgrade or just fix mine up lol.

Brandon:

If you head over to the Virtual Weber Gas Grill and simply type "clean" in the search bar on the left, Chris has several great articles on sprucing up your grill.

Yah, RC's Genesis hardware is the creme de la creme IMO. Jon Tofte did excellent reviews on some grates awhile back which is very informative....

As for better or not better, I could not be the judge of that. I am sure the one at Costco is "nicer" than your current ride. Aside from that I couldn't tell ya

I have this little kettle from Rec tec its same size as a weber kettle but its pellets. It can get to like 800 degrees. I do want to upgrade the grates on that with a good set from a weber.

Brandon,

Can you post pictures of the Rec Tec "kettle" in action? I have read that it only gets to 500 degrees and that it has grease management issues. It seems like a good idea to make a small - but not tiny - searing pellet grill. I would be interested in hearing more about your actual use.

p.s. I also have a Rec Tec RT-700 "Bull" which has been a reliable, wonderful low and slow cooker.

I seared steaks on it once using the optional GrillGrates mine came with. Not bad at all, but I was left asking "why bother?" since I can do similarly on my Genesis with a smoker box.

I just know that my enamel lid on my current grill still cleans up like new. Will the stainless do that?

Brandon, I have the S330 which is the SS version of yours with the side burner and sear station. I use the side burner but rarely use the sear burner. And I would never have the stainless hood and doors again. They are hard to keep clean and since they are not 304 then they tend to rust now after six years. They are constant maintenance and believe me, I am not a clean freak. I have a Genesis silver C with the enameled hood and love it. If it was me I would clean yours up, add new grates and “cook on”. 😀

I have the RT 700 bull as well. I love it for low and slow but it takes some time to get up past 500 and you wont get any flame kiss. So I just use it as a low and slow grill. I have the Rec Tec beta Bullseye so it has the pid controller. I do not have any action shots but should have some pics ill post in a bit from my phone. I have got it up to 816 degrees. Getting over 500 is easy. What sucks is it goes to 500 and then from 500 is just Riot mode so it just goes as hot as it can. There is no need for grease management at high temps. It just burns off. If you tried to do a low and slow and did not clean it and then went to riot mode yeah I could see a fire.

I also bought the sear grates for the bull. Just so much work like you said id rather use my Genesis. I could do like a reverse sear and smoke then sear on the genesis.

Richard,

Thank you sir. The more I look at the situation I think I will keep mine and upgrade it a bit for now. I seen some SS ones in person yesterday at lowes and im just thinking how good they look but how fast they will need cleaned. I am OCD and like to keep my outdoor cookers clean lol. I remember last black Friday ace had a deal on the SE models with the 9mm SS grates and enamel hoods. That may be the time to upgrade.

Don't get a SS lid if you like to keep it clean and looking new. I won't even try to rehab a SS lid. I just swap in a regular porcelain lid for my rehabs.

Bruce,

Got any pics of some of your rebuilds. Where do you order all your parts?

Stuff like burners, flavorizer bars and cooking grates, I order mostly off Amazon. But, for the other parts:

Here are some of the rebuilds I did this summer:

I don't have postings for my last two grills because they were sold before I posted them. Here is the latest grill I did.

Hello. New member here. I read through this thread and wanted to add another option you might want to consider, the Ace Hardware exclusive Genesis II E-325. After months of researching grills, that is the one I settled on, and could not be happier. The E-325 is between the E-315 and the E-335 (which is most similar to the E-345 Costco version you were eyeing). I settled on this one because it has the sear station I wanted, but not the side burner, something I'm certain I will never use because I've never used it on any of my other grills in over 20 years. The E-325 (has enclosed cabinet) had the features I cared about most.

Right now they are $800 in my city. I believe that price is for the duration of Weber's current $50 off sale which runs only a few more days. The E-325 also comes with the LED light, and (another selling point for me) free assembly and delivery if you sign up for their membership. I don't plan to use the membership, but it was free and worth getting the assembly and delivery. While I love assembling things, it's hard to set aside the time with a 4 year old demanding my attention. I also LOVE the Ace exclusive indigo color, which is what I bought.

You mentioned your grill not getting to impressive temperatures. This is my first Weber so I have no experience with them and didn't know what to expect, but my grill climbed to 650F in about 5 minutes (over 500F in about 2). Granted, yesterday was a scorching hot day. The grill was almost superfluous next to the searing you could get from the sun directly, but I digress. My challenge right now is figuring out how to keep temps down, because I've got a beast on my hands, the likes of which I've never dealt with before. My last major grill was the Australian BeefEater, with the burners high up under the grates. Even so, this Weber has blown me away. The Weber veterans may get a chuckle, knowing what these grills are capable of. But as a noob I'm stunned, in the best way possible.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if I would be happy with 650 degress in 5 minutes unless you didn't have the grates and flavorizer bars inside at the time. That just seems tooo hot, tooo fast. It leads me to believe in 15 minutes or even a half hour, you could have a nuclear melt down on your hands.

How were the temps measured? On the lid thermometer or on a wired external thermometer?

On the lid. I had all 4 burners on maximum, and when I saw that temp right away, I dialed it down to half power. It continued to climb, at which point I put the burners on minimum, turned off the sear, and opened the lid. Yeah, spooked me, but I'd rather have this problem than not enough heat.
