Trouble with the mail?

It can be particularly nerve-wracking with UPS because many refrigerated/frozen food deliveries are shipped by UPS. You order early in the week, it's supposed to arrive later in the week, often with Two-Day Delivery, and the threat of an additional day of delay is always worrisome.
Reminds me of a time back when I was a little guy. My dad was a buyer agent for Motorola WAAAY back in the day. And back then it wasn't unheard of for suppliers to kind of "grease the wheels". Well many may not recall but the precursor of UPS was RailWay Xpress. And way back then they were trying to unionize in Chicago and of course non other than Jimmy Hoffa was right there on the front lines. They were striking and my dad was expecting a big box of wonderful steaks shipped on ice. Well of course the strike had that ALL messed up. So he had to go down to the freight yards and finally pick up his box of most likely spoiled steaks. He walked right up to Hoffa and told him off in no uncertain terms and fully explaining to him that he was a part of one's digestive exit anatomy :D Anyway bodyguard thugs came up it was pretty scary. And not like my dad was ever some kind of big stud. Heck he was barely taller than my mother! But he had cajones

Not a whole lot of USPS issues here, although there are a lot of city streets with the same house numbers in our area, and sometimes I get mail that should have been delivered the next street over.

We have that problem, too. Even in the same subdivision, we have the same house number repeated on adjacent streets. Letter carriers really have to be focused when doing the final mail sort by address.

That is the same way here. One street over is a Jewish Synagogue. Would you like to guess how many times we have received their mail over the years? Good thing we are honest. You can tell the envelopes contain donations.

My section of the subdivision has our mailboxes attached next to our door. Our mail carrier has to hoof it to deliver, compared to the newer sections which have the boxes out by the street, which they just drive by and deliver.
Like I said earlier I could set my watch by mail delivery everyday but yesterday she showed up at 3pm and today at 5 pm.

This neighborhood all have mailboxes at the curb. A couple of years ago, my neighbor to the east & I put in a double post and mounted both mailboxes on it (both of our old posts were in bad shape, to say the least.) Apparently, I'm one of the very few people who paid attention to what the USPS wants in terms of height and location relative to the curb.

My neighbor did inquire about possibly getting together with the houses across the street and putting in a bigger set. I suggested that he (or we) talk to the mail delivery folks first, as that will thoroughly mess up their sorting patterns. Haven't heard anything back.

I'm confident I could live without the USPS. I do everything I can online. With the exception of birthday/Christmas cards and my monthly NRA magazine everything else is junk mail.

Yesterday, I received an e-mail from AT&T saying they have not received my payment yet. I checked and had mailed my check on Dec. 23. I called AT&T and they said they had received it 12 days after I mailed it. I can understand everybody being busy during the holidays, but 12 days?

The next problem with AT&T? When I asked about taking off late fees, they transfered me to someone else. Sorry to say this but they were not here in the USA and I had a very hard time hearing and understanding this person. After a while I just said thank you and hung up. They sent me another e-mail wanting to know how I rated the person that I was talking to. Waiting to hear what they think of my reply. lol

I have a few things electronic. But I guess I am just from the "old school. lol
Old school is DOA now. Plus many companies give a healthy discount for online automated payments. I.E. I recently switched from AT&T to the T-Mobile senior plan. What a difference. Went from $140 per month to $70 per month. with the $10 autopay discount. Loved AT&T but they would not give me a senior plan unless I had a FLA zip code. Sorry, not on your life LOL. So switch I did. A couple hiccups early on related to my number ports but otherwise smooth sailing

Yesterday, I received an e-mail from AT&T saying they have not received my payment yet.

Heh.... AT&T tried that with me, when I was still living in the Chicago area, 15+ years ao. "Here's the data from the bank on when AT&T cashed the check." "Oh.... it hasn't been credited to your account, though." "That's YOUR problem, AT&T has been paid by me. Don't make it my problem again, you won't like it." Upshot of it was that AT&T had no idea why my account hadn't been credited, or where it had gone. I'm pretty sure the CS rep heard it very clearly that AT&T was not going to make up anything on late fees.

As far as online payments.... I had a go-round a couple of weeks ago with the utility company. Their payment portal was switching from secure transmission to cleartext after authentication, before payment was submitted. My g/f promptly squawked for me to look before she went further. Turns out that they had a browser based issue and my g/f needed temporarily to switch to another browser. The rep got a [polite] earful about an IT savvy customer being thoroughly displeased with the potential loss of security.

NOTHING is secure [enough.]

I've been paying on my shoulder surgery for a while now.
I got a call from their accounting department telling me that they were switching banks and to stop using the link from the email receipt and do it from their website, which I did
I got a call a couple weeks ago advising me of the same thing
When I told her that I was now going to THEIR website and logging onto my account from there to make my payments, she didn't know what to say
I told her to bug her IT guys and not me and hung up!

Just now having a bit of a “patience tester” with some USPS frustration. eBay purchases gone sideways. It will all work out sooner or later but, things seem to be just plain irritating!
Larry, you constantly amaze me! “Old School” is never DOA, it’s just what “Old School” is! Basics are as old school as it gets, you are all about old school pal! Electronic payment is not the law of the land and I have too many complaints about that to go into, people that want that information are simply too stupid to make “withdrawals” at an agreed upon time or for the agreed amount from my experience so, I refuse to “share” banking information electronically unless I have several layers of insulation. Power company? No way under the sun will let those idiots have any information. When I walk a freaking payment in they still manage to put a left hand thread on it! Pay Pal for amazon purchases is one thing but, I prefer the cash world when possible! Heck, I’d prefer to mail cashier a personal cheque for grill parts when possible.

I work for a small warehouse that sells online only. We are constantly having problems with USPS. Packages don't get delivered, get lost, or it never gets picked up in the first place. They literally have tractor trailers full of packages that are just sitting there. I would recommend that you don't use them for anything that has a lot of value.

Probably a poor word choice.
Given how poorly our postal service works, how insecure it is, I just feel better with online transactions. The only times I have ever had a payment security breach was with Home Depot and Schmuks. In both cases my Debit/CC info was stolen. Neither company had yet adopted "chip and pin" technology and on 4 separate occasions 3x with Schmuks and once at HD my card info was stolen necessitating having my card replaced and bank account changed 4x! I have never had an issue with electronic payments. Though I will say I keep very long/complicated passwords and dual level authentication on all my accounts. My son in law has guided me through much of this. I trust him. He's a smart kid. Hell Aldi trusts him to manage their online security for the entire USA. So he must know something LOL

Loving the USPS this year. I understand they are having a busy year with COVID and increased volumes.
However it took 3 weeks for a priority package to be send from NC to OH. It also took 3 weeks for another package, first class, to IN. Another package mailed to France the same day made it in a week.

Both of these that took 3 weeks sat in a Distribution Center for 2 weeks without moving. Etsy purchases coming to me also seemed to sit in source or destination centers for 2-3 weeks.

Hopefully we can begin to return to 'normal'

Christmas boxes that went to Florida and Oregon arrived in under a week, the one to Alabama, three weeks. The one to South Carolina was four weeks and three days! I understand “busy” but, that was ridiculous!
