Three pounder on the open fire

I found a three pound prime tomahawk at Costco the other day and wanted to cook it for Smoke Day. An open fire cook was calling me though so I’m placing the photos here.

After a rubdown with some Killer Hogs AP, I built the fire with only hickory. After getting the wood where it needed to be, the steak went on and, well, just look at the photos. You be the judge. :)

LEGIT! looks amazingly good 👍

As so many others are saying that thing is perfectly cooked. That is hard enough to pull off in a standard charcoal grill with confined baskets and thermometers letting us know the temps, but on a open fire.👏👏👏

I did use my Thermapen ONE for internal on this guy, but that’s not even the biggest steak I’ve cooked like that. This is...

Trust me though when I tell you that I’ve burnt up some stuff over an open fire 😆

you've inspired me to do this on my E6 Kamado using CA white oak. this looks like an epic cook, one that needs to be tried! thanks for the inspiration. and i'll be the first to admit, i ain't giving the dog the bone. i'm keeping it for myself.; at least some of it.

That’s awesome!! Given everything you’ve cooked and posted photos of, I know it will turn out great. (y)

I would love to try some open fire cooking with some Texas Post Oak…

Appreciate the vote of confidence 💪

I love an expert ribeye and the thickness of a tomahawk makes it forgiving enough to to try. Ain’t no steakhouse around doing these so I’m down for a session.
